Will Verizon and AT&T Be Bringing 4G LTE to a City Near You?

4G LTE is the best thing since sliced bread — at least mobile carriers like Verizon (NYSE:VZ) and AT&T (NYSE:T) seem to think so. AT&T has annotunced that it will be expanding its LTE network to 12 new markets starting next month, while Verizon has expanded its LTE network in Lincoln, Massachusetts. It looks like things are about to change for consumers who own a 4G LTE-enabled device but don’t have access to a LTE network in their hometowns.

Verizon Wireless is the operator of the largest 4G LTE network, and has activated a new LTE service in Lincoln, Massachusetts. According to Verizon, 4G is up to ten times faster than 3G networks, and the operator is looking to expand LTE coverage to more areas to keep ahead of consumer trends and maximize the performance of wireless devices.

AT&T has announced that it will be expanding 4G LTE coverage to various cities throughout the country. AT&T has yet to announce the anticipated date of the LTE rollout to the new markets, but has announced that the following cities will be gaining LTE coverage soon:

  • Naples, Florida
  • Bloomington, Indiana
  • Lafayette, Indiana
  • Muncie, Indiana
  • Baton Rouge, Louisiana
  • New Orleans, Louisiana
  • St. Louis, Missouri
  • Staten Island, New York
  • Akron, Ohio
  • Canton, Ohio
  • Cleveland, Ohio
  • Bryan-College Station, Texas

Simply put, LTE is cheaper, better, and faster, and is coming to a city near you.
