Royal Dutch Shell (NYSE:RDSA) Closing price $69.38
Salvagers are currently making plans through which a Shell drill ship may be removed from rocks near an Alaska island, where it ran aground Sunday in a fierce year-end storm. Meanwhile, members of the United States Congress are asking for an inquiry into the company’s overall Arctic Ocean drilling operation by the Interior Department and the U.S. Coast Guard. On Thursday, Shell incident commander Sean Churchfield reported that the first salvage crew on board the Kulluk, which is a 266-foot diameter barge with a 160-foot derrick, has sent back details that will be used to start planning, adding that “There is still a lot of work to do to bring a safe conclusion to this incident.” Churchfield also indicated that the vessel is upright and stable, showing no indication of a fuel leak.
