The retail numbers for September are out and it’s good news for some and not so good for others. Limited Brands (NYSE:LTD), The Gap (NYSE:GPS), and TJX Companies (NYSE:TJX) exhibited positive trends along with perhaps luring some shoppers from struggling department store chains such as J.C. Penney & Co. (NYSE:JCP) and Sears Holdings Corporation (NASDAQ:SHLD), who hemorrhaged customers due to various causes. Figures for the back-to-school season thus far are better than estimated and the best news might emerge when third quarter results are posted showing improved sector margins due to clearance sales having being avoided.
