After several days of uncertainly, the Japanese mobile operator Softbank Corp. (SFTBF.PK) confirms that it will purchase Sprint Nextel Corporation (NYSE:S) in a transaction worth $20.1 billion. The buyer will acquire $8 billion in newly-issued stock and $12.1 billion in existing shares, which will give it a 70 percent overall interest in Sprint.

Amazon.com (NASDAQ:AMZN) is in talks to buy the cellular-chip operations of Texas Instruments (NYSE:TXN) in an acquisition that would be worth billions of dollars, according to the Israeli newspaper Calcalist. The seller’s chips are employed in Kindle devices and Barnes & Noble’s (NYSE:BKS) Nooks, but has already said that it will not invest in supporting the plans of its customers for smartphones and tablets as much as it did previously.
