Tired of hearing complaints about snowmageddons, polar vortexes, and any other term the media or National Weather Service want to add to our lexicons this year? We get it, it is cold outside, but that doesn’t mean we have to talk about it — instead, we should drink to it. Since no one wants to sip a frozen daiquiri when it’s 5 below, here are 7 classic cocktails that will make you forget about the latest arctic blast.
1. Hot Toddy
Made with whiskey, brandy, or rum, a hot toddy is exactly what everyone needs to get through the winter months, and it may just be what the doctor ordered. Well, according to this recipe’s author at least, whose family doctor recommended the beverage to help soothe sore throats.
2 ounces whiskey (ex: Jack Daniels)
1 tablespoon honey
4 ounces hot water
1 teaspoon lemon juice
1 slice fresh lemon (optional)
Directions: Place the whisky in a large microwave safe mug. Add the honey. Pour the hot water into the mug over the spoon you used for the honey to get off the last little drops. Add the lemon juice and stir well. Place the mug in the microwave for 1 minute or until it is piping hot, but not boiling. Add the lemon slice and serve.
