In July, Boeing will start compensation to Poland’s national carrier, LOT Polish Airlines, for the 787 fiasco that grounded its fleet of Dreamliners earlier in 2013. Deputy Treasury Minister Rafal Baniak reported to Radio PiN on Monday that Boeing will make a compensation offer next month. The carrier had two Dreamliners in operation during the battery catastrophe that grounded its fleet of 50 aircraft for months, and said it lost over $30 million in lost flights alone.
Verizon Communications (NYSE:VZ): Current price $49.35
On Monday, Verizon reported that the deputy secretary for economic development for New York Gov. Andrew M. Cuomo, Leecia Eve, has been chosen vice president of government affairs for Verizon’s tri-state region. She will come to Verizon on July 15 and succeeds Jim Gerace, who has been appointed Verizon’s chief communications officer. In her new role, Eve will represent Verizon on a number of matters, including government and external affairs, public policy, and regulatory matters.
The Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS): Current price $62.86
Early estimates for the past weekend indicate that Monsters University took in some $82 million at the box office, considerably more than an impressive performance from Brad Pitt’s World War Z, which brought $66 million. Meanwhile, last week’s winner, Man of Steel pulled back 65 percent from its performance of last weekend with about $41.2 million in box office receipts over the just-past weekend. All told, the weekend box office stands 43 percent over the same weekend in 2012. Monsters University is Pixar’s 14th major film, and currently maintains the studio’s record of all its features hitting number one on their debut weekend.
