Analyst Ratings: Optimism surrounds Costco Wholesale, as 10 analysts rate it as a buy, four rate it as a sell, and seven rate it as a hold.
A Look Back: In the first quarter, profit rose 2.6% to $320 million (73 cents a share) from $312 million (71 cents a share) the year earlier, meeting analyst expectations. Revenue rose 12.4% to $21.63 billion from $19.24 billion.
The company has enjoyed double-digit year-over-year percentage revenue growth for the past four quarters. Over that span, the company has averaged growth of 14.1%, with the biggest boost coming in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year when revenue rose 16.8% from the year earlier quarter.
The company has seen net income rise in three straight quarters. Net income rose 10.6% in the fourth quarter of the last fiscal year and 5.9% in the third quarter of the last fiscal year.
Stock Price Performance: Between November 25, 2011 and February 23, 2012, the stock price rose $4.18 (5.2%), from $80.59 to $84.77. The stock price saw one of its best stretches over the last year between September 9, 2011 and September 20, 2011, when shares rose for eight straight days, increasing 7.8% (+$6.14) over that span.
