On Thursday, Amazon reported that it has debuted its first Kindle store in Mexico, providing Mexican customers with over 70,000 e-books in Spanish. The firm also said that its Kindle and Kindle Paperwhite e-readers will be available at the Gandhi bookstore chain.
Also, the new Mexico Kindle Store offers in excess of 1,500 free books in Spanish from Mexican and other Latin American authors and publishers, including works by such authors as Carlos Fuentes, Gabriel Garcia Marquez, and Isabel Allende. All told, Mexico’s Kindle store offers over 2 million titles in several languages, including Spanish. Amazon said that 1,000 of its Spanish-language e-books will be sold at special prices from 9 Mexican pesos apiece, or 68 cents.
