Amazon CHALLENGES Google and Apple’s iOS 6

Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) and its Android devices are at the top of the digital mapping game. Google Maps is almost ubiquitous, even on non-Android devices. Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) has been working on its own maps, and will be turn-by-turn capable with iOS 6. The competition is bound to be fierce as the giants fight to control how people get from point A to B. But not to be outdone, Amazon (NASDAQ:AMZN) is entering the game with the launch of a maps API for Kindle Fire developers.

Don’t Miss: Amazon’s Tax Holiday is OVER.

Back in July, Amazon acquired 3D mapping service UpNext for an undisclosed amount. Many saw this as Amazon’s first step into the complicated world of digital mapping. The Kindle Fire uses the Android platform, but Amazon is working hard for independence. Amazon shuns Google Play, promoting its own content services, and has replaced Google Search with Microsoft’s (NASDAQ:MSFT) Bing.

Amazon has seriously stepped up its game recently. The new Kindle Fire could keep Amazon a major player in the tablet market. Amazon services are getting upgrades every day, and the company is the largest online retailer in the world. Even though rumors of a phone were tossed out, it can’t be long before Amazon is competing with Google, Apple, and Microsoft on all fronts.
