Amazon Has a Gift For Apple Fans (NASDAQ:AMZN) has rolled out an instant video player for the iPhone and the iPod touch, letting Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) users watch videos they have rented or bought from the online retailer on iOS devices. The free app was originally released for the iPad in August.

Amazon Instant Video gives Prime subscribers access to several thousand TV shows and movies. Users can watch any media already tied to their account, but the app does not allow for purchases directly over the phone or the music player. AirPlay compatibility is limited to audio-only, according to The Verge. Other features include Amazon’s auto-updates to season subscriptions and Whispersync, which saves viewing position in the video for viewing on another device.

“Our customers tell us they want the convenience of being able to watch all of their movies and TV episodes, wherever they are,” Vice President for Video, Anthony Bay, said in a statement. “Today we’re excited to extend our ‘buy once, enjoy everywhere’ approach to iPhone and iPod touch users, giving customers the chance to enjoy more than 140,000 titles from Amazon Instant Video and more than 30,000 titles from Prime Instant Video anytime, anywhere.”

Amazon has also announced plans to release Cloud Player, its music-streaming app, for Roku set-top boxes and Samsung Smart TVs.
