AOL, Inc.’s (NYSE:AOL) one-time special cash dividend of $5.15 per share will be treated as a return of capital for tax purposes. The dividend is payable on December 14 to shareholders of record at the close of business on December 5.
Netflix, Inc. (NASDAQ:NFLX) just took a large step to help cloud services become become stronger. Announced this week as Hystrix, the program was originally developed by the Netflix API team back in 2011 to oversee the interactions between Netflix’s distributed services and systems as well as helping to prevent cascading failures from occuring. As of today, anyone can use Hystrix free of charge because it has been officially released on GitHub under the Apache 2.0 license. “Today, tens of billions of thread-isolated and hundreds of billions of semaphore-isolated calls are executed via Hystrix each day at Netflix and a dramatic improvement in uptime and resilience has been achieved through its use.” This could have huge implications for the online services we already use as well as future services.

Sources believe an announcement may occur within days. Zucker will replace Jim Walton, who is leaving on December 31.
