“Angry Birds” creator Rovio Entertainment Oy is in talks with Baidu Inc. (NASDAQ:BIDU) and Sohu.com Inc. (NASDAQ:SOHU) to work on expanding the game to the world’s largest Web market. The talks include possible new methods of Internet distribution, said Henri Holm, senior vice president of Rovio Asia.
Rovio has seen more than 100 million downloads of the game in China on Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android devices and Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhones and iPads. “The number of smart devices is growing exponentially,” Holm said. Downloads of “Angry Birds” will increase “dramatically” in China this year.
One of the ideas the company has for expansion is potentially offering a game that can be played on Web browsers using HTML5 technology. However, only 10 percent of Internet users in China have access to that technology now.
