The seemingly endless war in technology continues to heat up. Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) has launched a new ad campaign to call out Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) shopping results, while promoting its Bing service at the same time.
Microsoft’s Bing team has a new weapon against the world’s most popular search engine, “Scroogled.” The term, as defined in the attack video seen below, means, “The new Google practice of selling their shopping search results to a high bidder.” Google recently made the switch to a paid-only listings format in Google Shopping. Payment is now one of several factors used in ranking search results. Of course, Microsoft recommends that for an honest search, you should try Bing.

“Google Shopping is nothing more than a list of targeted ads that unsuspecting customers assume are search results,” the Bing team said. Google fired back and defended its service, saying, “Google Shopping makes it easier for shoppers to quickly find what they’re looking for,” according to PCMag. However, as the Associated Press notes, “Bing’s shopping section includes merchant listings for Shopping.com, a service that gets referral fees. Microsoft says the payments don’t influence how Bing ranks its shopping results.”
