Facebook Rouses the Troops in iOS-Android War

Now, there is no arguing that Apple’s (NASDAQ:AAPL) iPhone is one of the most popular phones ever, with it showing up all around the world in numerous iterations and with various copy-cats, as many popular lawsuits have decreed. But the iPhone isn’t the only smartphone on the market by a long-shot, with Google’s (NASDAQ:GOOG) Android expected to remain the most-shipped smartphone operating system this year with a 60 percent market share.

So what does this mean for Android users?

The results really depend on developers. Facebook (NASDAQ:FB) is making for an interesting example on this matter as a large number of Facebook’s employees are iPhone users and have been criticized for their preferential treatment of apps on iOS. The iOS app has been faster and more stable than the Android counterpart (a difference this writer has experienced as his Android app crashed time and again across the table from gloating iOS users) and will likely remain so if the developers don’t give Android the same love and care they give iOS.

Of course, Facebook is no fool, and they know spurning 60 percent of the smartphone market is not a brilliant business strategy. The company has acknowledged the iPhone leanings of their employees and begun a propaganda-like campaign to get more employees using the Android OS.
