Target Partners with Neiman Marcus, Penney’s Adds 40 Thousand Mannequins: Consumer Biz Wrap

Target Corporation (NYSE:TGT) is partnering with Neiman Marcus in a much anticipated collaboration with 24 designers, to debut the results on Saturday. The designers include Diane von Furstenberg, Tory Burch and Jason Wu, who are producing in excess of 50 items ranging for between $7.99 and $499.9, to be available at both stores and on their websites. Target has recruited designers for years, many of whose pieces are normally high-end at Nordstrom (NYSE:JWN), Saks (NYSE:SKS) and others.

The unsuccessful Republican nominee for President Mitt Romney has returned to the board at Marriott International (NYSE:MAR), effective Monday, according to a press release. The Executive Chairman J.W. Marriott, Jr. said, “We are delighted that Gov. Romney has agreed to rejoin our board, on which he has served with distinction twice before.  We will benefit from his tremendous energy and capability to guide long-term success in an increasingly complex business environment.  We look forward to working closely with him again as a member of our strong, talented and diverse board.”

Shoppers going into the J.C. Penney & Co. (NYSE:JPM) will see many changes in the historic retailer’s appearance, including some 40,000 new mannequins (not all in the same store, of course), but they are a part of the more obvious novelties brought by Chief Creative Officer Michael Fisher in his attempts to bring back the 110-year-old department store chain, whose sales plummeted by 26.6 percent in the third quarter and whose shares have tumbled more than 50 percent in 2012.
