Sprint Nextel Corp. (NYSE:S) has made a strong rebound in 2012 as company shares have risen almost 50% year-to-date. “They have, in our view, taken bankruptcy off the table for the next several years at least,” claims Stifel Nicolaus telecom and cable services analyst Christopher King, “So that’s helped buoy the stock.”The shares traded down $0.16 (4.61%) recently at $3.31.
Verizon Communications Inc. (NYSE:VZ) along with leading aluminum supplier Hydro has begun an agreement under which Verizon will provide a managed global wide area network which will have integrated security, remote access solutions, an integrated partner firewall enabling third-party access to particular business solutions, and full professional service support. The Network and security monitoring is provided on a follow-the-sun basis from the company’s global network as well as security operation centers in Dortmund, Germany; Singapore; Ashburn, Va.; and Sao Paolo. The contract covers service transition from existing providers and lasts for three years of operations. The shares traded down $0.06 (0.13%) recently at $44.89.
Vodafone Group plc (NASDAQ:VOD) has replaced Shameel Joosub with Antonio Coimbra as chief executive officer for its Spanish unit. Joosub has been appointed chief of Vodafone’s South African business, sources say. The shares traded up $0.07 (0.25%) recently at $28.31.
Frontier Communications Corporation (NYSE:FTR) has become the sole local telecommunications provider with historic, regional, and local ties to its community following SureWest’s announcement that it was sold to a company in Illinois. The city of Elk Grove has recently honored Fronteir as an “Exceptional Enterprise,” and it was part of the “Best in Business Award” program which was reserved for larger businesses which create jobs, give back to the community, and use long-lasting business practices. The shares traded up $0.02 (0.50%) recently at $4.01.
