The Goldman Sachs Group, Inc. (NYSE:GS): Mark Schwartz, one of Goldman Sachs Group, Inc.’s four vice chairmen, has been in Beijing since his appointment this past June to chairman of the Asia-Pacific region. He is the most senior executive Goldman Sachs has ever posted in the country. “Goldman Sachs wants to prioritize the building out of our China business,” Schwartz said in his first interview since taking up his new position. “My return has sent a very powerful signal to the entire Goldman Sachs community of 33,000 professionals around the world that China is a high priority for us.”
Barnes & Noble, Inc.’s (NYSE:BKS) NOOK unit sales have doubled over the four-day Black Friday weekend across all channels based on information compared to the similar period last year. The growth was driven by increased promotional activity at channel partners, particularly Walmart and Target. Retail Core comparable sales, which exclude sales of NOOK products, slightly declined over the holiday weekend, but are in-line with company expectations.

The TJX Companies, Inc. (NYSE:TJX) said, “Business throughout the Thanksgiving week and weekend was robust. We continue to be excited about our prospects for December and the fourth quarter.” The holiday selling season “off to a very good start”.
Domino’s Pizza, Inc. (NYSE:DPZ) is one restaurant that is increasing their holiday hiring. Just before Thanksgiving, Domino’s said that they plan to hire between 5,000 and 25,000 people at their almost 5,000 domestic stores to prepare for three of their biggest days all year — Thanksgiving Eve, New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day.
3M Co. (NYSE:MMM) completed their purchase of Ceradyne which will bolster the divisions that operate in transportation, energy, and defense. The $847 million purchase of Ceradyne Inc. was first announced Oct. 1.
