These are the Cars that Chevrolet is Bringing to SEMA

It’s nearly time for the annual Specialty Equipment Market Association show, or SEMA, which last year drew more than 60,000 domestic and international buyers to the trade-only exhibition. It’s an opportunity for aftermarket companies to show off their wares, and for OEMs to also display some tricks they have up their sleeves. Automakers have been teasing some images of what to expect from their various skunk works, but Chevrolet came out forthright with an announcement of five vehicles that it has prepared for this year’s show.

“Chevrolet’s 2015 passenger car lineup is one of the strongest and most competitive in the industry, offering customers a wide range of great-looking, great-driving and well-connected choices,” said Paul Edwards, vice president of Chevrolet marketing, in the company’s press release. “They’re personal cars, too, and these concepts suggest possibilities of how to amplify Chevrolet’s heritage of performance and fun-to-drive spirit to make them even more personal.”

Emphasis is largely on appearance and customizable options pertaining to that, while engines have been largely left alone. Check out what Chevy will have on display at this year’s SEMA after the jump.

Chevrolet SS Sport Concept If you’re hoping for a 700 horsepower Hellcat killer, this car won’t be it. The SS Sport Concept actually leaves the sedan’s 415 horsepower intact and instead focuses on “a makeover that reflects its performance capability.” This means that the improvements are exclusively aesthetic, but chances are you won’t be lacking for power. There’s that new paint color, and Chevy has added a grille kit, fog lamp bezels, side fender vents, and a rear spoiler. There are stripes for the hood and deck lid, black 20-inch wheels, and some interior perks like a sport pedal kit and cargo net.

Chevrolet Sonic Performance Concept If any of these concepts actually see production, we’re hoping it’s this one. A performance-minded Sonic hatchback would help fill a void in GM’s lineup, one left open for a hot hatch to compete with Ford’s Fiesta ST and even Volkswagen’s GTI. A new exhaust and intake on the 1.4-liter turbocharged four cylinder helps bring up power — it produces 138 horsepower stock, well short of the 200 it should have — and a track-tuned suspension system will help shore up its handling, a necessary component in the hot hatch segment.

Chevrolet Sonic Accessories Concept The Sonic Accessories Concept was thought up to offer a window into the possibilities that Chevy buyers have when purchasing their cars. On display is the matte black stripe running the length of the car, white headlamp and tail lamp rings, black grille surround, mirror covers and rear spoiler, black 17-inch aluminum wheels, a performance suspension kit with lowered ride height, and carpeted floor mats, door sills, and sport pedals.

Chevrolet Impala Blackout The new Impala is far from the fleet filler that it once was, and the redesigned car has shed its beige image to the point where it has become among the most complimented sedans in its class. The Blackout concept is exactly what it sounds like, and is meant for aesthetic purposes only, as it adds Chevrolet Accessories’ black grille surround, a rear spoiler, painted mirror caps, and 19-inch aluminum wheels. Inside, the theme continues — in all black, of course — with a wire mesh pattern, stainless steel sills, and a sport pedal kit.

Chevrolet Cruze RS Plus Concept Fresh off a light redesign for 2015, Chevrolet will present a hotter version of the Cruze RS at this year’s SEMA show with a new body kit and additions that accentuate the already sporty RS model, like lower body moldings and a custom rear spoiler. The Wildfire paint scheme is unique to the concept, and the interior is finished off in “Jet Black” for maximum contrast, which the buyer can theoretically build on with optional racing stripes from Chevrolet Accessories. It’s finished off with a conceptual cold-air intake system to supplement the 1.4-liter turbo under the hood.
