Luxury can be classy. It can be sleek and sexy, and it can be — and usually is — very expensive. But perhaps most important, luxury can mean fast.

Many of the world’s luxury automakers craft cars that can rival the comforts of the world’s fanciest hotels. But they also make cars that can keep step with a large contingent of the planet’s quickest vehicles as well. Though in a different segment than traditional muscle and sports cars, many luxury vehicles oftentimes straddle the line between one or more of those categories. Just because they’re comfortable and classy doesn’t mean they can’t perform on the track, right?

Such is the case with some of the luxury cars we’re looking at in this list. These are the fastest luxury sedans in the world, ranked by their time from 0-60. They have varying engine sizes, power levels, and aesthetic designs, but at the end of the day they have all proven they can perform exceptionally.

Read on to see the world’s fastest luxury sedans.

13. Bentley Mulsanne Speed

Nothing spells out luxury like Bentley. Let’s just say that the Bentley Mulsanne Speed’s name isn’t an empty threat. The Mulsanne Speed can run from 0-60 in 5.1 seconds, earning it a spot among the world’s fastest. It’s pretty darn powerful as well, housing a 530 horsepower engine, that also lays down a staggering 811 pound-feet of torque. If you can picture yourself towing a boat in a luxury car, this might be the model to do it.

12. Maserati Quattroporte GTS

Sleeker and sportier than a Bentley, the Maserati Quattroporte GTS can make that same run from 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. Equipped with a 3.8-liter V8 engine, the Quattroporte GTS generates 530 horsepower and can reach a top speed of 190 miles per hour. Of course, for a luxury vehicle, you need to pay a luxury price. This particular Maserati model has a price tag of more than $140,000.

11. Audi A8 W12

Our ride through luxury land continues, this time with the $137,900 Audi A8 W12. This German-built luxury sedan can tackle the 60 miles per hour mark in 4.4 seconds, putting all 12 of its engine’s cylinders to good use. As the name implies, this Audi model employs a 12-cylinder, 500 horsepower motor that can also deliver 463 pound-feet of torque. It also has a top track speed of 130 miles per hour, which is unfortunately limited well below many of its counterparts.

10. BMW Alpina B7

The Alpina B7, which is made by BMW’s ordained performance partner, can blast from 0-60 in just 4.3 seconds. Of course, that speed comes at a hefty price as well ($132,000 to be precise) but for that sum, you get one of the quickest, most impressive vehicles on the market, and the fill-in for BMW’s non-existent M7. The Alpina B7 comes with a 4.4-liter TwinPower Turbocharged V8 engine, making up to 540 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque.

9. Bentley Flying Spur W12

With a name like the Flying Spur, you have to know what you’re getting into, and this Bentley certainly lives up to its name. The Flying Spur W12, a 616 horsepower monster, can jet to 60 miles per hour in just 4.3 seconds, and tops out overall at a speed of 200 miles per hour. Under the hood, a 6.0-liter 12-cylinder engine supplies power in large quantities, including 590 pound-feet of torque to move this behemoth of a sedan.

8. Aston Martin Rapide S

Known largely for their grand touring cars, Aston’s sedan business is secondary to its coupes and convertibles. But Aston didn’t mess around with the Rapide; when it ventures into sedans, it does it right. It has a starting price in excess of $200,000, and if it’s performance you were hoping for, this car delivers: behind the strength and power of a 6.0-liter AMG29 V12 engine, the Rapide S can rocket to 60 miles per hour in 4.2 seconds, and reach a top speed of 203 miles per hour.

7. BMW M5

The BMW M5 is easily one of the most recognizable luxury cars on the market, and it’s also one of the world’s fastest. As one of the top models in the entire BMW range, the M5 has the DNA of a race car packaged in the aesthetics of a luxury sedan. For power junkies, 560 horses and 500 pound-feet of torque will supply your fix, and for speed addicts, a 0-60 time of 4.2 seconds is sure to suffice.

6. Audi S8

Audi’s S8 may be one of the most impressive vehicles in terms of performance to ever be devised by the company’s engineering team. Those performance numbers include a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds, and a limited top speed of 155 miles per hour (though it’s not hard to realize that it’s capable of far more, we’re sure). It’s also priced considerably less than several other cars of its ilk at around $115,000.

5. Mercedes S63 AMG

Boasting a 5.5-liter AMG bi-turbo V8 engine, the S63 AMG from Mercedes can make up to 577 horsepower on its way to a 0-60 time of 3.9 seconds. The AMG gets the edge in the rankings over the Audi S8 in terms of power, as the S8 could muster only 520 horsepower. The S63 is also a pricey sprinter, with a starting value of $141,450. The V12-powered S65 AMG, though more powerful (it has 621 horses), is actually slower to 60, at 4.2 seconds.

4. Audi RS7

While you may have thought that Audi topped out in the luxury segment with the S8, it’s actually that car’s “little” sibling, the RS7, that can top it in terms of quickness. The RS7 can make the same sprint to 60 miles per hour in 3.7 seconds compared to the S8’s 3.9, and is also considerably less expensive at $106,500. The RS7 can also reach a top overall speed of 174 miles per hour, behind 560 horsepower produced from its 4.0-liter V8 engine.

3. Alpina B6 Gran Coupe

BMW and Alpina aren’t done just quite yet. The B6 Gran Coupe, built on BMW’s M6 Gran Coupe, can scream from a standstill to 60 in 3.7 seconds thanks to a 4.4-liter Alpina-tuned Bi-Turbo V8 that produces up to 540 horsepower and 540 pound-feet of torque. That’s coupled with an 8-speed automatic transmission, essentially making it a missile on wheels.

2. Porsche Panamera Turbo S

Purists howled when Porsche revealed the Panamera Turbo S, much in the same way they did when Porsche introduced the Cayenne. However, the company was careful to ensure that it was a Porsche through-and-through; the Turbo S variant of the Panamera can absolutely blister the pavement with a 0-60 time of 3.6 seconds and a top speed of 192 miles per hour. It also makes 570 horsepower from a 4.8-liter V8, in addition to up to 590 pound-feet of torque.

2014 E63 AMG 4MATIC Sedan

1. Mercedes E63 AMG

The winner of the title of fastest luxury car goes to the Mercedes E63 AMG. This car is an absolute monster, and yet still has the refined touch of luxury and comfort you would expect from a Mercedes-built vehicle. The E63 AMG sports an identical 5.5-liter biturbo V8 engine to the S63, but is smaller and lighter, therefore making better use of its power. This car can dash to 60 miles per hour in just 3.5 seconds, putting it ahead of the competition by just a hair.
