Jeep’s 75th Anniversary: Check Out 6 Special Edition Models

2016 Jeep® 75th Anniversary edition complete model lineup

For those of you who don’t know it yet, 2015 was an absolutely outstanding year for Fiat-Chrysler. Jeep led the way with a lineup that is about as sordid as a bag of mixed nuts. Ask any auto enthusiast what they think of Jeep, and you will get a wide range of responses; it’s still is a badge that people either love or hate. But put brand loyalties aside, and everyone will agree that there is no arguing with the fact that this off-road attraction has morphed into an American staple, and that Jeeps of today are better than ever before.

The redesigned Cherokee remains a polarizing creature for both buyers and critics alike, and while its sculpted shell has amassed some serious consternation, it’s still an avid off-road animal like most of its brethren, especially in Trailhawk form. Meanwhile, the runt-sized Renegade has proven to be more of an homage to Jeeps of yesteryear with its smaller stance, retro styling cues, and fun-filled attitude, all of which caused us to fall head-over-heels for it when we tested the turbocharged, manual-equipped Sport version last month.

Wisely sticking with what works, the Wrangler continues to plow forth, as does the Grand Cherokee, which can be had with an EcoDiesel engine upgrade for those of us who need more torque, and a SRT version remains available because tires deserve to be destroyed at stoplights. On the downside, both the Patriot and the Compass continue to receive bottom-of-the-barrel reviews and quality standard ratings from companies like Consumer Reports, and thankfully the two lame geese in the gaggle are reportedly getting molded into a single, more reliable vehicle this year.

So what do you do if sales are up and a new year is nigh? Release 75-year anniversary editions of everything! Born way back in 1941, the Jeep brand has long been a staple of mechanics with military ambitions, off-road extremism, and unapologetic patriotism, as it unabashedly capitalizes upon three-quarters of a century’s worth of knowledge and history.

“Jeep vehicles have defined the authentic SUV and set the benchmark for off-road capability and freedom since they were first produced in 1941,” says Mike Manley, head of the Jeep brand for FCA’s global market. “In honor of the brand’s 75th anniversary, we have created eye-catching, special-edition models of each vehicle in our lineup that celebrate the unparalleled history of the legendary Jeep brand.”

According to Jeep’s press release, “all 75th Anniversary special-edition models will be available in Jeep-exclusive Green exterior paint (Sarge Green, Recon Green, or Jungle Green, depending on model), Low Gloss Bronze wheels, Bronze and Orange exterior accents, unique interiors, including exclusive seats with embossed 75th Anniversary logo or one-of-a-kind Ombre Mesh fabric, open-air freedom and a 75th Anniversary exterior badge.”

Delivery is supposedly slated for the first quarter of 2016, and even though a lot of the limited edition upgrades are mainly cosmetic, there is a lot in this limited release launch that intrigues us. Here’s what to expect.
