Still disappointed by Ford Motor Company’s decision to equip its 2017 F-150 Raptor with a V-6?
Don’t sweat it because there are a handful of reputable tuning shops that offer F-150-based performance pickups packing V-8 grunt.
Among them is semi-official Ford tuner Roush, which at last week’s 2016 SEMA show unveiled its 2017 F-150 Nitemare.
Years ago, Roush teamed up with Ford for a prior version of the Nitemare F-150. That one came with a supercharged 5.4-liter V-8 delivering 445 horsepower and 500 pond-feet of torque. For the 2017 F-150 Nitemare, Roush turned to a supercharged 5.0-liter V-8 good for 600 hp and 557 lb-ft of torque.Couple the supercar-like output with the lightweight aluminum construction of the latest F-150 and you can imagine just how quick this steed will be. According to Roush, it will hit 60 mph from rest in just 4.2 seconds, making it, the tuner says, the “quickest factory street truck in the world.”
Other mods include a high-flow exhaust system, a custom grille and front bumper cover, and 20-inch forged wheels with performance rubber. Customers will be able to select two- or four-wheel drive, and for those seeking true off-road capability Roush has a few mods for that too. For example, one could add a full Fox suspension system and Mickey Thompson tires.
Pricing and availability details are yet to be announced.
