In 2014, trucks and SUVs outsold passenger cars every month of the year, the first time that happened since 2004. By year’s end, the Detroit Three full-size pickups had sold over 1.7 million units and claimed the top three places on the U.S. sales charts. Even midsize pickup sales were strong, with Toyota dominating the field and new General Motors offerings filling out dealer inventories.

Are Americans getting their money’s worth when they buy pickups? According to the Kelley Blue Book (KBB) study on resale value for 2015 automobiles, no segment can come close to trucks. Seven of the top 10 in resale value were pickups, while the other three were utility vehicles of one stripe or another.

The bottom line is the investment in nearly any pickup (save one high-profile truck) retains over 50% of its value after five years of ownership. Here are Kelley Blue Book’s top 10 in resale value for 2015.

10. 2015 Honda CR-V

How well-received is the Honda CR-V? Let us count the ways: CR-V won the 2015 Motor Trend SUV of the Year; received the ALG Residual Value Award; garnered Top Safety Pick+ designation from the IIHS; and was named one of KBB’s Best Buys for 2015.

With those notches on its dash, CR-V added 10th place in resale value. KBB.com figures you can get 65.3% of the original purchase price ($23,445) after 36 months and 50.8% after 60 months of regular ownerhip. Many people will benefit from these numbers: the Honda CR-V sold 335,019 units in 2014, putting in eighth place among all vehicles in the U.S.

9. 2015 Ford F-150

Kelley Blue Book is borderline ecstatic about the 2015 Ford F-150, which it named the Overall Best Buy of any vehicle on sale in the U.S. That aluminum projects to be durable and retain its value in the coming years. KBB.com lists the average resale potential at 65.6% after 36 months and 52% after 60 months. With its MSRP of $25,420 and fuel economy rated at 22 miles per gallon combined, it’s easy to see how much value a truck owner can get from the F-150. In 2014, consumers bought 753,851 units, making it the best-selling vehicle for its 34th consecutive year. F-150 was also rated most eco-friendly full-size pickup by ASG.

8. 2015 Toyota 4Runner

Invest in a 2015 Toyota 4Runner ($33,210) and you will get your money’s worth. The newest edition gets 22 miles per gallon on the highway and sold 76,906 units in the U.S. in 2014. Kelley Blue Book says the latest edition will retain 63.2% of its value after 36 months and 54.3% of its value after 60 months. That makes 4Runner stand alone as the only full-size SUV that can retain over half its value after five years on the road.

7. 2015 Chevrolet Silverado

Sales of the Chevy Silverado were booming in 2014, with 529,755 U.S. customers picking up a model, 10% more than the previous year. While most of GM’s headlines came for the introductions of its new midsize pickups, the redesigned Silverado’s launch has to be considered a huge success for the automaker. KBB.com says a Silverado ($26,105) will retain 63.1% of its purchase price after 36 months of ownership. After 60 months, owners can expect to get 54.7 % on the resale market.

6. 2015 GMC Sierra

GMC Sierra shares plenty in common with the Silverado, but with a slightly higher base price ($26,605), it will have to do more to retain its value down the road. Kelley Blue Book says there is nothing for Sierra owners to worry about, as these pickups will keep 63.7% of value after 36 months of ownership. Five years from the purchase date, owners can expect to get an impressive 55.6% of the truck’s original value. Sierra 2014 sales of 211,833 units were a 15% jump over the prior year.

5. 2015 GMC Canyon

As GMC’s mirror to the Chevy Colorado, the 2015 Canyon has gotten a lot of good press since the two trucks debuted as fully redesigned models in 2014. U.S. consumer greeted them wholeheartedly, buying 230% more (3,070 trucks) over the prior year’s numbers. That looks like it will be a sound investment as the Canyon ages. At fifth in overall resale value, this GMC midsize truck should retain 66.2% of its value after 36 months and 58.3% after 60 months.

4. 2015 Chevrolet Colorado

The 2015 Chevy Colorado scored a huge upset when it snatched Motor Trend Truck of the Year honors away from the Ford F-150. Small and versatile, the Colorado offers truck drivers plenty at a smaller base price ($20,120) and lighter footprint (27 highway miles per gallon) than the full-size pickups. According to the KBB rankings, it’s also tough to beat a Colorado on value. After 36 months, owners will have a truck worth 67.6% of their original purchase price. After a full five years, it is projected to stand at 58.3%.

3. 2015 Toyota Tundra

Toyota Tundra doesn’t sell anywhere close to the Detroit pickups, but at 118,493 units in 2014, it claimed 41st place on the U.S. sales list (more than the Chrysler 200 or Mazda3). While its fuel economy ratings (17 miles per gallon combined) trail the competition by a significant margin, the Tundra ($29,020) is the best among full-size pickups in resale value. KBB.com puts the number at 68.3% after 36 months of ownership and 58.4% after 60 months.

2. 2015 Jeep Wrangler

Among major automakers, none posted gains like Fiat-Chrysler Automobiles in 2014. On the strength of vehicles like the Ram pickup, Jeep Grand Cherokee, and Wrangler, Chrysler Group brands gained 16% over the prior year’s numbers. With Ram missing the cut on this resale value list — the only major full-size model left out in the cold — Wrangler ($22,795) must carry the torch alone for the automaker. Kelley Blue Book says it’s doing just fine, with a resale value of 69.9% after 36 months and 58.9% after 60 months.

1. 2015 Toyota Tacoma

Tacoma is a huge volume seller for Toyota, and the 2015 edition boasts the best resale of the model year, according to KBB’s rankings. It’s the dominant force in midsize pickup trucks, and consumers will get a look at the 2016 model soon enough after its Detroit Auto Show reveal.

Tacoma ($20,765) sold 155,041 units to place 29th on the U.S. sales list in 2014, and consumers will get an astounding value on their truck investment. After 36 months, Tacoma retains an incredible 74.9% of its value, and it will hold onto 60.8% of its value after 60 months of ownership.
