Ugly celebrity cars are nothing new. In a formula that has been proven repeatedly, having millions in the bank does not always lead to wise automotive buying practices. We can’t blame the automakers here. Most celebrities driving monstrosities around town had their cars customized to their unique standards. To prove our point, every one of the following ugly celebrity cars is a vehicle they modified.
Transforming a gorgeous supercar into something hideous monstrosity for the covers of tabloids may sound bizarre, but it’s fairly commonplace. Eccentric celebrities crave the limelight, and the weirder their cars get the further some will push their next build.
We’re not saying superstars don’t have the right to spend their money as they please and drive ugly automobiles. However, we can’t fathom what they were thinking when they asked for custom builds of the following 10 cars.
1. Nicki Minaj’s Lamborghini Aventador
In what will become a recurring theme of celebrities taking expensive cars and mangling them, Nicki Minaj’s Lamborghini kicks things off in a pink bubblegum blast. While loud colors like orange and yellow are commonplace on a supercar like the Aventador, the hot pink is just much. Would you be surprised if we told you it was a brand tie-in? It was.
2. Dr. Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh’s bizarre custom cars
Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh is an Indian spiritual leader, social reformer, actor, director, singer, and philanthropist. He started running the socio-spiritual organization Dera Sacha Sauda in 1990. To have an idea of his standing in India, he is one of 36 celebrities to have received “Z+ Security” protection from the government.
Singh also reportedly designs the flashy vehicles in his films, including some of the ugliest cars ever seen on camera. Check out his utterly outrageous Twitter feed for more of his vehicles.
3. Chris Brown’s 2004 Lamborghini Gallardo
Among the many exotics stored in celebrity garages, the Lamborghini badge remains a staple. Unfortunately, R&B sensation Chris Brown took things too far by turning his first Lambo into an oversized matchbox model. The Gallardo is extreme enough in its factory form, but the retro-70s throwback paint scheme doesn’t improve much. West Coast Custom took and executed this garish (though undoubtedly profitable) order from Brown.
4. Will.i.Am’s custom Dick Tracy machine
According to 2013 report by Jalopnik, this Cruella de Vil-like cruiser started life as a 1958 Volkswagen Beetle, of all things. Will.i.Am believed it would play a crucial role in the rapper’s doomed automotive venture. With its cold aluminum interior, comic book-like lines, and metallic blue paint scheme, this custom clown car reportedly took Will.i.Am about five years to make. The delays came from the rapper’s ever-changing preferences and overall indecisiveness.
5. Austin Mahone’s wrapped and rusted BMW i8
Making Justin Bieber your role model will lead to some really poor decisions. Take pop singer Austin Mahone for instance. The pop singer adopted Bieber’s tendency to “uglify” luxury automobiles and to a whole new level by having his BMW i8 “rusted”. Fortunately, this is a custom wrap job from industry pros MetroWrapz, but it’s a stark warning to any i8 owners not to leave their $140,000 Bimmer out in the elements.
6. Will.i.Am’s custom Delorean
For as cool and futuristic as the DeLorean was in Back to the Future, recreating that look in modern times just isn’t going to fly, literally and figuratively. This all-white fright is another West Coast Customs creation handcrafted to Will.i.Am’s taste. It reportedly houses just two components from an actual DeLorean: its winged doors. We would like the rest of the car back, and we bet Will.i.Am does, too.
7. Justin Bieber’s Audi R8
How do you make one of the world’s best-looking cars become an object of contempt? Wrap it in the worst color pattern imaginable and hand it over to a superstar with more money than common sense. Yes, we speak of Justin Bieber. When Bieber had his Audi R8 vinyl-wrapped in leopard print, a collective groan came out of car lovers everywhere. Even though “The Bieb” has been seen driving many garish automobiles over the years, this ridiculous ride must be the tackiest.
8. Dennis Rodman’s hummer
Leave it to Dennis Rodman. Just when you think he reached the pinnacle of ridiculous celebrity behavior, he does you one better. This H1 Hummer is a strange mess like no other, starting with its custom paint job. Photoshopped for modesty’s sake, the paint scheme consists of broken asphalt, basketball homages, an image of Rodman himself, and lots of nude women in provocative poses. The spotlight and 1990s mall security cop lights on top add an extra level of absurd to this obscene machine.
9. Darren McFadden’s purple donk
This purple and green machine is what happens when classic Detroit steel, donk car culture, Barney the Dinosaur, and lots of cash decide to have a wild weekend in Vegas together. Strangely enough, this vehicle started life as a Buick Centurion before gaining 32-inch wheels and the turning radius of an iceberg. With those specs on the board, Darren McFadden’s monstrosity is a contender for the most ridiculous celebrity ride ever.
10. Sonny and Cher’s Mustang
Though designed by George Barris, godfather of Hollywood car customization, there is nothing sexy about Sonny Bono’s 1966 Mustang. Originally one of a pair crafted for Sonny and Cher as gifts, these Mustangs were a mish-mash of damn near everything. Cher received one in pink, while Sonny got this caramel colored model.
New front fascias, Ford Thunderbird taillights, shag carpet interiors in leopard prints, and shaved door handles were just a few of the custom touches. Both cars were still together after being sold at auction after all these years.
