VW Curbs Employees’ Email Time on Their BlackBerrys
Volkswagen AG (VLKAY) thinks its employees spend too much time on their BlackBerrys (NASDAQ:RIMM) and have recently limited the amount of time they can spend on them.
Recently, a Volkswagen union in Germany made a deal with management to have the company’s email server end the sending of messages on company-issued BlackBerrys 30 minutes after a worker’s shift has ended, according to the Financial Times. Email delivery will resume 30 minutes before an employee’s shift begins.
The affected workers can still use the smartphone for off-hour telephone calls.
The number of workers with the email cessation is around 1,000; it doesn’t include either senior managers or those outside certain salary ranges.
