The 7 Best Airbnb Houseboats
Want to wake up to a sunrise over the water and have gentle waves rock you to sleep at night? Airbnb lets you turn the dream of vacationing on the water into reality. Hundreds of houseboats, yachts, and other watercraft are available to rent on the accommodations website. While you probably won’t be able to sail the high seas in your Airbnb rental (most boats listed stay moored at the dock), you’ll still get to experience the unique feeling of living on the water. Here are 10 of the coolest boats we found for rent on Airbnb, from a budget-friendly steamship B&B in Michigan to a ultra-luxurious yacht in Indonesia.
1. Paris houseboat with a view
You can’t beat the views from this lovely and romantic Paris houseboat. Moored on the Seine River in the city’s 16th arrondissement, you can sip wine and gaze at the sparkling Eiffel Tower after a day spent exploring the City of Light. The Arc de Triomphe, Champs Elysées, and Museum of Modern Art are all nearby.
2. Bay Area ferry boat
Sausalito, just across the bay from San Francisco, is famous for its quirky houseboat community, and the SS City of Seattle is one of the most recognizable of the town’s dozens of floating homes. Built in 1888, the “Yellow Ferry” is the oldest surviving ferry boat on the West Coast. The ship has been lovingly restored and is now available to rent. And unlike some boat rentals, you won’t be cramped for space. The master suite, which offers bay views through the original paddle wheel, is 2,600 square feet, not counting an 800-square-foot deck where you can sit and watch the sun set over the water.

4. Quaint London canal boat
You won’t believe you’re in the middle of one of the world’s busiest cities when you stay on this quaint and cozy London houseboat. Moored in Regent’s Canal not far from King’s Cross, it’s the perfect base for exploring one of the world’s most popular destinations, though if the weather is nice you may just want to sit on the bow and watch the ducks, geese, and other boaters go by.
5. Historic steamship in Michigan
From the 1930s through the early 1980s, the SS City of Milwaukee ferried railway cars across Lake Michigan between Muskegon, Michigan, and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. No longer a functioning ferry, the boat is now a National Historic Landmark docked in Manistee, Michigan, and visitors can spend the night in one of several restored staterooms and crew quarters on board. When not in your cabin, you can relax in the vintage Grand Saloon, furnished with vintage Oriental rugs and comfy chairs. A continental breakfast is provided.
