Flying can be a major pain, even if you’re famous. Most celebrities get used to dealing with airport security, navigating around the airport, and talking with the gate agents and flight attendants. But even celebrities who fly all the time don’t always stay on their best behavior by the time they get ready to board the plane. In fact, airlines have had to kick many celebrities off their flights for some pretty embarrassing reasons.
Read on to check out the most memorable occasions when airlines chose to remove a very famous passenger from a flight.
1. Billie Joe Armstrong
- Wouldn’t pull up his sagging pants
E! Online reports that in 2011, a Southwest flight attendant asked Billie Joe Armstrong to pull up his sagging pants as he boarded a flight from Oakland to Los Angeles. The Green Day vocalist refused. Then, he got into an argument with the flight crew instead. So the airline kicked him off the plane — all for wearing his pants too low.

2. Alec Baldwin
- Didn’t want to stop playing Words with Friends on his phone
Back in 2011, plenty of us played Words with Friends on our phones. Alec Baldwin famously loved the game. He didn’t want to stop playing it on a flight from Los Angeles to New York. So when the flight crew asked him to stop, Baldwin lashed out at the flight attendants and American Airlines in a barrage of tweets. Ultimately, the airline kicked him off the flight.

3. Amanda Bynes
- Tried to fly without an ID
You need a valid form of photo identification to fly. (That’s true even if you’re famous enough that lots of people would recognize you.) Amanda Bynes found that out the hard way in 2013, when the crew wouldn’t let her get on a flight without an ID. E! Online reports that the actress told the pilot to Google her. But it didn’t work, and the airline still wouldn’t allow her on the plane.

4. Naomi Campbell
- Threw a fit when her bags didn’t make it onto the plane
It’s always a bummer when your bags don’t make it onto your plane. (Nobody wants their airline to lose their luggage!) But you can always choose to respond gracefully, unlike Naomi Campbell, who E! Online reports “flew into a rage blackout” upon learning of a luggage delay. The crew asked Campbell to deplane. Even worse? The supermodel kicked and spat on police officers who had to drag her off the plane.

5. Blac Chyna
- Got into a drunken argument with a flight attendant
Showing up to a flight drunk and getting into an argument with a flight attendant? As Blac Chyna found out in 2016, the combination offers a pretty easy way to get kicked off a flight. As E! Online reports, police arrested the model at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport for public intoxication. Fortunately, Rob Kardashian showed up to bail her out.

6. Josh Duhamel
- Refused to turn off his BlackBerry
Back in 2010, many airlines wanted passengers to turn their phones off in the air. (Luckily, times have changed! We now we have airplane mode and in-flight Wi-Fi.) As his flight from New York to Lexington, Kentucky, taxied down the runway, Josh Duhamel didn’t want to comply with the crew’s request to turn off his BlackBerry. Consequently, the pilot actually turned the plane around to have the actor escorted off the flight.

7. Leisha Hailey
- Kissed her girlfriend, and responded with profane language when a passenger complained
Actress and musician Leisha Hailey got kicked off a Southwest flight in 2011 for a pretty surprising reason. She kissed her girlfriend, Camila Grey, who was seated next to Hailey. A member of the flight crew asked Hailey and Grey to stop, in response to the complaint of a fellow passenger. Both Hailey and Grey responded with “abusive language,” which Southwest later insisted was the reason it kicked them off the flight.

8. David Hasselhoff
- Showed up too drunk for a 7 a.m. flight
Airlines don’t like to serve drunk or unruly passengers. In fact, they’ll physically restrain or remove passengers who get too disorderly. David Hasselhoff found that out the hard way when British Airways left him at Heathrow for showing up too drunk for an early-morning flight.

9. Charlie Heaton
- Got caught with traces of cocaine in his luggage
Stranger Things star Charlie Heaton was denied entry into the U.S. — and missed the series’ season 2 premiere party — when officials at LAX found traces of cocaine in his luggage. Drug-sniffing dogs made the discovery. Officials didn’t arrest Heaton, but they detained him at the airport and then put him on a plane back to London.

10. Conrad Hilton
- Called other passengers “peasants”
Conrad Hilton, brother to Paris Hilton, learned the hard way that you shouldn’t threaten the flight crew or yell at your fellow passengers. E! Online reports that Hilton threatened the British Airways crew on a transatlantic flight in 2015. He also called his fellow passengers “peasants.” The crew restrained Hilton in his seat, and had police waiting for him upon arrival.

11. Whitney Houston
- Refused to buckle her seatbelt
Even travelers who routinely zone out during the flight attendants’ safety demonstration know that they have to buckle their seatbelts. But Whitney Houston almost got kicked off a plane in Atlanta for refusing to comply with this basic safety rule. The crew warned the singer that if she didn’t have to fasten her seatbelt, Delta would remove her from the flight. So she eventually allowed a crew member to buckle it for her.

12. Courtney Love
- Got into a “verbal spat” before her flight took off
Here’s a very good reason to converse politely with the flight crew, your travel companions, and your fellow passengers. If you get into a boisterous argument with the cabin crew, your airline may kick you off your flight, like Virgin Atlantic did to Courtney Love in 2003. Police escorted Love across the tarmac when she landed, and authorities detained her for several hours.

13. Paul McCartney
- Carried half a pound of marijuana on a flight to Japan
Even today, you’d get in big trouble for carrying half a pound of marijuana onto a plane. But Paul McCartney did just that in 1980. At the Tokyo airport, customs agents arrested the singer-songwriter, who had tucked the marijuana into one of his suit jackets.

14. Kate Moss
- Threw a tantrum when the crew wouldn’t serve her alcohol
On an EasyJet flight in 2015, flight attendants refused to serve Kate Moss alcohol. She became disruptive, by some accounts. One even reported that her next move was drinking from a bottle of vodka in her luggage. The airline then called the authorities to have the supermodel escorted off the plane.

15. Jonathan Rhys Meyers
- Showed up for his flight too drunk and belligerent to board
In 2010, Jonathan Rhys Meyers had a little too much fun passing the time before his flight in the first class lounge. The gate agents saw that he was too belligerent and disruptive to board. They tried to turn him away, but according to E! Online, the actor “got into a scuffle with the attendants and is now banned for life from flying United Airlines.”

16. Christian Slater
- Boarded a flight with an unloaded pistol in 1994
Most people know that you should never board a plane with a firearm in your carry on baggage. But Slater did the “unthinkable,” according to E! Online. The actor then got arrested. He had to complete three days of community service. We have a feeling he’d have gotten in much deeper trouble if that happened more recently.

17. Kevin Smith
- Got kicked off a plane because of his size
Southwest Airlines kicked filmmaker and actor Kevin Smith off a flight not because he had too much to drink or started an argument, like other celebrities, but because of his size. Smith said he had no trouble fitting in his seat, buckling his seatbelt, or lowering his armrests. His guess? He thought that he got kicked off the flight by an airline employee who didn’t like his movies.

18. Snoop Dogg
- Carried too much cash with him
Some celebrities, like Snoop Dogg, have managed to get stopped by the authorities even when they fly via private plane. Italian police stopped the rapper as he prepared to board a private plane with $422,000 in cash in his Louis Vuitton luggage. In the European Union, you can only board a plan with a maximum of 10,000 euros — an amount that the rapper dramatically exceeded.

- Screamed profanities at children on her flight
Not everybody likes children, or wants to listen to them on a flight. But in 2009, Ivana Trump got escorted off a flight for throwing a fit over the presence of some boisterous children on the plane. E! Online reports that Trump “ended up screaming profanities at them, calling them ‘little f–kers.'”

- Refused to stop riding his hoverboard
When rapper Wiz Khalifa refused to stop using his hoverboard to get around LAX, Customs and Border Patrol officers handcuffed and detained him. CNN reports that there was no record of an actual arrest resulting from the incident. But Khalifa said he thought the incident was ironic, given his assumption that law enforcement officers will “be riding [hoverboards] soon as well.”
