How Joshua Kushner Is Nothing Like His Brother, Jared Kushner

Supermodel Karlie Kloss recently got engaged to her boyfriend, Joshua Kushner. If you think that that name sounds familiar, you’re right. Joshua Kushner is the younger brother of Jared Kushner. (Jared Kushner married Ivanka Trump and currently serves as a senior adviser to Donald Trump.) Both brothers have become wealthy and influential. But in many ways, the two brothers couldn’t be any more different.

Below, find out everything you need to know about Joshua Kushner.

Joshua Kushner and Karlie Kloss got engaged after dating for six years

People reports that Joshua Kushner proposed to Karlie Kloss after six years of dating. And as the publication explains, “despite such public profiles, they’ve managed to keep their relationship relatively out of the spotlight.” In fact, they have attended just a few red carpets together. And they have shared only a small number of Instagram posts about each other.

Jared Kushner and Ivanka Trump, on the other hand, got married two years after they met. And they didn’t try to stay out of the spotlight. Business Insider reports that Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner met in 2007 at a business lunch. They married at Trump National Golf Club in New Jersey in 2009. In the intervening years, they once split up because of religious differences. Both Ivanka Trump and Karlie Kloss had to convert to Judaism to become engaged to Jared and Joshua, respectively.

He remained silent on politics after Donald Trump’s election

Joshua Kushner has tried to stay quiet about politics in the era of Donald Trump. But Business Insider reported in March 2018 that he finally broke his political silence. Kushner and Kloss posted photos from the March of Our Lives, an anti-gun-violence rally that took place in many U.S. cities. Up until that point, Joshua Kushner and Karlie Kloss “had remained quiet on politics, including about their connections to the Trump family,” Business Insider notes.

Kushner attended the Women’s March in Washington, D.C., the weekend of Donald Trump’s inauguration. Forbes notes that Joshua Kushner didn’t vote for Donald Trump. Karlie Kloss has made a point of avoiding speaking about Donald Trump or the Trump administration, according to People. However, she did say that she voted for Hillary Clinton in the 2016 presidential election.

The Trump campaign derailed Joshua Kushner’s low profile

Forbes reports that before the Trump campaign, Joshua Kushner had “everything.” He had “a $1.5 billion venture capital shop that shot to prominence with an early bet on Instagram.” He also had “a slew of high-profile startups that he was directly incubating.” And he enjoyed “a life that remained low-profile even as he dated supermodel Karlie Kloss.” The publication adds, “the Trump Train had derailed much of that.” Especially Kushner’s low profile.

Joshua Kushner found himself linked, “at least in perception,” to ideas abhorred by the tech community. After election day, Jared Kushner and his wife, Ivanka Trump, celebrated Donald Trump’s victory. But Joshua Kushner scrambled to do damage control within his businesses and the startups he backed. He even had to develop contingency plans for Oscar, a health insurance company he co-founded around Obamacare, which Donald Trump promised to dismantle.

Jared and Joshua Kushner chose two different paths

Joshua Kushner and Jared Kushner find themselves in opposite political camps. But as Forbes reports, the brothers also chose vastly different paths in building their careers. “As heirs to billion-dollar fortunes go, Josh is the self-made man, abdicating a comfy seat at the family real estate firm to create something independent and new.” He built a venture capital firm that has backed some of the best startups of the decade. And he has personally cofounded or incubated more, including Oscar, Maple, Capsule, and Cedar.

Jared Kushner, on the other hand, has become one of the most influential people in the world by being “given every break that got him there,” as per Forbes. He got the keys to the family business from his father, Charles Kushner, who promptly went to prison. He also got the keys to a presidential campaign from his father-in-law, Donald Trump.

Joshua Kushner’s net worth may exceed Jared Kushner’s

Wondering which Kushner brother has a higher net worth? Town and Country reports that Joshua Kushner’s net worth may exceed Jared Kushner’s despite the younger brother’s lower profile. He’s made a career of putting his venture capital firm’s money into successful tech companies.

Joshua Kushner’s estimated net worth is about $800 million — a staggering sum even for someone who comes from a wealthy family. Jared Kushner, on the other hand, is estimated to have a net worth of about $90 million less than Joshua, at $710 million. Blazing his own trail — and steering clear of the White House — seems to have paid off for Joshua.
