Here’s the Most Popular Vacation Destination for People in Your State

The state where you live is probably a factor you consider when you choose where to vacation. (And as we all know, some states are better than others to visit on vacation.) Both you and your neighbors have probably seen some of the tourist attractions that are close to home. But when you dream of a vacation far from home, how much do you have in common with the other people in your state?

Coastal Living took an intriguing look at the top vacation destinations for travelers in all 50 states, courtesy of data from InsureMyTrip. Below, check out the top international destinations for people in your state (and get some inspiration for your next vacation)!

Alabama

If you live in Alaska, then you probably have some friends and neighbors who have taken a vacation to the United Kingdom. Another popular vacation destination for the state is Mexico (which sounds like the perfect destination to escape Alaska’s cold winters, if you ask us). Alaskans also take vacations to Canada, which seems like a pretty practical choice. But when they venture farther from home, they favor Thailand and Germany.

As Coastal Living learned, the other top vacation destinations for people in Arkansas include the United Kingdom, Italy, and France.

And even getting to Canada, another popular destination for Californians, can require some significant travel time.

We’d venture to guess that many people who live in Florida appreciate sunny days and balmy weather. Floridians also travel to Mexico and to Spain when they book an international getaway, according to Coastal Living.

But the list of the state’s most popular international destinations gets rounded out with the two more sunny destinations: Italy and the Bahamas.

Kansas

The Kansas state capitol building is located in downtown Topeka on land donated by the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad company. Construction began in 1866 and was officially completed 37 years later in 1903 at a total cost of just over 3.2 million dollars. The building is over 300 feet tall and is 17 feet taller than the U.S. Capitol building in Washington D.C.

If you live in South Dakota, then chances are good that you’ve considered vacationing in Mexico, the most popular choice among travelers in your state. So we’re not all surprised to see that the state’s top three favorites among international vacation destinations are pretty well-known for their mild weather and sunny days. Travelers from Wisconsin love traveling to the Caribbean and to Mexico. And when they go to Europe, they love heading to Italy. They also visit Germany and the United Kingdom, two countries that are gorgeous but aren’t exactly renowned for their beautiful weather.
