LA’s Museum of Ice Cream Is Totally Sold Out: Here’s What You’re Missing

Do you like ice cream? If so, then you’re going to love this. There’s an entire museum devoted to just that. That’s right, we’re talking about Los Angeles’ Museum of Ice Cream. And because it’s no longer possible to get tickets to LA’s exhibit, we’re delivering the inside scoop on why it sold out so fast, along with everything you’re missing out on.

1. It’s all about fun, imagination, and inspiration

This probably doesn’t come as much of a surprise. But still, the creators’ ability to turn a regular lot into a land of wonder is truly amazing. The museum has somehow managed to transport each and every customer to a simpler time.

Just take part of the museum’s mission statement, for instance. “The Museum of Ice Cream is the place where ideas are transformed into real life experiences. A place where flavors are mysteries, toppings are toys and sprinkles make the world a better place.” Yeah, sounds pretty magical to us.

2. The museum is an Instagram lover’s dream

One look at the museum’s website, and you’ll see what all the fuss is about. As The New York Times described it, there’s no doubt the museum’s two creators “understand their target audience: millennials who need to prove to the rest of social media that they were out somewhere doing something really fun.” With all the museum has to offer, we’d say the creators were right on track.

3. A 24-year-old dreamed up the vision

What 24-year-old doesn’t dream about jumping into a sprinkle-filled pool? (We’ll have more on that in a bit.) Well, at the time of the New York City Museum of Ice Cream opening in 2016, 24-year-old Maryellis Bunn turned that dream into a reality. Bunn, a creative strategist with clients, such as Facebook and Instagram, was able to bring her idea to life with the help of Manish Vora, her boyfriend and former investment banker. Together, they created a dreamlike land akin to that of Willy Wonka’s.

4. The location

Designed as a pop-up art exhibit, the museum is in its second year of dazzling visitors, enthusiasts, and curious folks alike. The Museum of Ice Cream has set up its 2017 shop in LA’s art district. If we were going to set up a hipster-drawing, weather-appropriate, sun-drenched spot for an ice cream exhibit ourselves, we couldn’t think of a better place. But even before there was an LA location, there was New York City.

5. The NYC location sold 30,000 tickets in 5 days

“The insanely popular art installation/big kid playground/shrine to frozen dairy opened in New York last summer and sold 30,000 tickets in five days,” Los Angeles Magazine reported. “The original location across from the Whitney Museum featured rooms filled with artwork and interactive attractions dedicated to dessert themes like chocolate, cones, and rainbow sprinkles.” And the LA location is even bigger and better.

So now, here’s the fun part. Prepare to be amazed. Here’s what visitors get to experience.

6. The pool of sprinkles

One of the most talked-about features is the pool of sprinkles. Something that, seemingly, only a toddler or an adult with a serious ice cream affliction could dream up, the sprinkle pool really does exist. According to the museum website, it designed “close to 100 million sprinkles out of antimicrobial plastics to fill [the] signature sprinkle pool.” And yes, all those sprinkles do get cleaned daily, believe it or not.

7. Banana split room

Banana splits sure have stood the test of time, and now, they have their very own place of worship. Upon entering the banana split room, which is composed of 10,000 bananas, don’t be surprised if you find yourself mesmerized by the whimsical design. There are bananas hanging from the ceiling, plastered on the walls, and, of course, surrounding the swing set fit for any split-loving couple.

8. Giant gummy bears

Some people love topping their bowl of ice cream with a healthy helping of gummy candy. So naturally, there’s plenty of gummy bears to go around at the Museum of Ice Cream. From giant bears to heaps of candies to taste for yourself, gummy bears are aplenty. So go ahead, grab a handful — if you were lucky enough to have scored yourself a ticket, that is.

9. Mint grow house

A paradise for any mint chocolate chip lover, the mint mochi room is heaven on earth. Set in a greenhouse environment, the tea room is complete with mint leaves as fresh as any other garden around. The true challenge, though, is seeing whether you’re able to create one of your own. But hey, summertime is almost here, which means anyone with a green thumb definitely has a shot.

10. Melting popsicle jungle

Where better to lounge than an oversized melting popsicle? That’s right, the museum plays host to a bevy of this classic summertime treat. And in the melting popsicle jungle, no meltdowns allowed! Smiles only at this whimsical paradise.

11. Best of California room

A true LA pop-up exhibit wouldn’t be complete without a little California love. And at this museum, you’re sure to get just that: pink palm trees, stars on the floor, and enough California dreaming to sweep you away as soon as you lay your head to sleep at night. It truly is all here inside the Museum of Ice Cream.

12. Visitors get free ice cream (and other goodies), of course

Well, this isn’t technically true, considering visitors did pay to enter in the first place. It really is true what they say: There’s no such thing as a free lunch. But luckily, there is such a thing as a “free tasting” of the signature product when you purchase an entrance fee. And at $29 a pop for one adult ticket, you’ll never consider Ben & Jerry’s overpriced again.

13. You might even spot a celeb

The fun doesn’t just stop with the exhibit itself. If you’re a celebrity and pop culture enthusiast, the Museum of Ice Cream could be your next favorite stake out spot. With all the hype the place has gotten, you’re likely to see a couple famous faces along the way. According to Hello! Magazine, the likes of Kim Kardashian, Gwyneth Paltrow, and Katy Perry have all been spotted working their way through the magical wonderland of ice cream dreams come true.

14. It’s so fun, the whole family can enjoy it

There’s not much explaining to do on this one, but still, it’s worth mentioning. Remember those childhood days of chasing down the ice cream truck in between neighborhood games of Red Rover? Well, thanks to the Museum of Ice Cream, adult and kid visitors alike can experience that same nostalgic feeling together.

15. What’s next for the Museum of Ice Cream?
