Places Across the U.S. Where You Might Bump Into Meghan Markle and Prince Harry

Now that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have tied the knot, rumor has it they may turn up in the U.S. soon. The newly-named Duke and Duchess of Sussex could quietly be planning a visit to kick off a veterans’ charity event near and dear to the prince’s heart.

Here are some spots Meghan and Harry have enjoyed around the states. You may run into them there again, sooner rather than later. See where Harry absolutely loves a good plate of barbecue (page 4) and also a place the newlyweds may visit to follow in the royal footsteps of Prince William and Kate Middleton (page 8).

  • Meghan’s hometown
  • Harry is patron of a charity whose event kicks off there.

First and foremost, this is Meghan’s hometown. Her mother Doria Ragland lives in the L.A. area, and her father Thomas Markle Sr. lives a few hours south in Mexico. While Harry has visited Meghan’s mother and friends privately before, the former actress would love to visit her California home, reports say.

And there’s another reason: Harry is patron of charity Walking with the Wounded, whose event is set to kick off in L.A. on June 2, 2018. Rumor was that he would make an appearance as a show of support. The six military veterans would trek across the United States and finish in New York on September 6, 2018.

  • Meghan graduated from Northwestern University.

While they’re in the U.S., the royal couple may decide to stop in Meghan’s suburban Chicago college hometown, where she still visits her sorority sisters once in a while. She graduated in 2003 in theater and international studies. The actress served as recruitment chairwoman for her sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma and has kept in touch with some college friends.

  • Meghan praised local restaurants on her blog.

She may be a California girl at heart, but Meghan certainly loves a trip to New York City. She praised the Lower East Side on her now-defunct blog The Tig. In particular, she enjoyed hanging out at The Bowery Hotel, praising it for its “cozy charm” and being “the who’s who nightlife scene.”

If in town again, she may also slip into Clinton Street Baking Company for her highly-recommended blueberry and banana-walnut pancakes.

4. Memphis

  • Prince Harry filled up on barbecue at a popular local restaurant.

He may be a British, but Harry certainly appreciates good barbecue. The prince would likely want to return to Memphis and pile his plate high. He and his brother Prince William chowed down there at Charlie Vergos’ Rendezvous while stateside for a 2014 wedding.

While at the popular eatery, they dined on barbecue, cheese and sausage, ribs, shoulder, brisket, and chicken. Both princes are known for their longstanding appetite for barbecue, according to Princess Diana’s former personal chef.

  • Meghan visited a high school where students shared their stories.

Meghan is no stranger to parts of South Carolina. In 2012, when she was starring in legal drama Suits, she visited a Greenville high school on a USA Network-sponsored tour to help fight prejudice and discrimination. She accepted an invitation to the event, calling it a “no brainer.”

Markle, who is biracial, said she “dealt with a lot” growing up. She sat in the front row to hear students’ stories of bullying and bigotry. “When I knew that kids were going to be brave enough to tell their stories, I felt I had to be here to support it and be a part of it,” she said.

  • Prince Harry may wish bring his wife to pay respects to fallen soldiers.

Prince Harry is an army veteran with deep respect for his fellow soldiers, whether it be in the U.K. or the U.S. In 2016, he visited Arlington National Cemetery to pay tribute to fallen American military personnel.

The former helicopter pilot in Britain’s Royal Air Force placed a wreath and a hand-written note on the grave of a soldier. “To my comrades-in-arms of the United States of America, who have paid the ultimate sacrifice in the cause of freedom,” read the note, which was signed, “Captain Harry Wales.”

7. Miami

  • Harry enjoyed the big city’s nightlife in 2014.

His hard-partying days may be over, but Harry may yet wish to revisit Miami for a little excitement. He partied there in 2014 for his friend Guy Pelly’s bachelor party. Fresh off a breakup with then-girlfriend Cressida Bonas, the ginger-haired prince joined a co-ed group for dinner at a local hotspot followed by dancing at a nearby club.

While the club closed off the top floor for Harry’s privacy, the prince didn’t even go near the rail, People reported. Another source said he hit the dance floor and “seemed to have a rousing time.”

8. Toronto

  • Meghan lived there for seven years while filming Suits.
  • William and Kate visited Canada in 2011 and 2016.

Although it’s not part of the U.S., nearby Toronto would certainly be a likely high-priority destination for the newlyweds on a trip across the pond. It would be an opportunity for Meghan to visit with friends she’d made during her time there.

Likewise, Prince William and Kate Middleton toured Canada following their 2011 wedding and again in 2016 with their children, Prince George and Princess Charlotte.
