Take it upon yourself to plan a memorable getaway all on your own, and you’ll earn even more brownie points from your other half.

If you’re not sure where to head for your weekend of bliss, we’ve put together this list of five super-romantic destinations across the U.S. There’s a getaway here for every type of couple, we guarantee it.

1. Savannah, Ga.

If your sweetheart is into vintage Southern charm, you can’t go wrong with a trip to Savannah. Among the city’s attractions are its immaculately preserved architecture and two-dozen squares – the jewel-like parks that dot the historic city center.

Many of Savannah’s historic homes have been turned into intimate hotels and bed and breakfasts. The Hamilton-Turner Inn, which faces onto Lafayette Square, was named one of the most romantic hotels in America by Travel & Leisure. Each of the 17 guest rooms in this restored 1873 mansion has unique features, including claw-foot tubs and 11-foot windows in some rooms. The hotel’s two-night “Romance” package includes chilled champagne and a dozen roses upon arrival, plus a horse-drawn carriage ride.

2. Kauai, Hawaii

West coasters who really want to get away can look to Hawaii, specifically ultra-romantic Kauai. A direct flight from major cities like Los Angeles or Seattle to Lihue is about six hours, making this lush island — which U.S. News & World Report named the number-two spot for a romantic getaway in the U.S. — best for a long weekend away.

Once you arrive, settle in at the luxurious Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa, which Oyster.com declared one of the area’s most romantic hotels. Among the beachfront property’s amenities are guestrooms with private lanais, a 45,000-square-foot spa, and opportunities for private beachside dining.

3. Sedona, Ariz.

Sedona regularly tops lists of the most beautiful places in the U.S., and once you visit, you’ll understand why. Combining stunning red rock vistas with boutiques, galleries, and luxury hotels, this Arizona town is sure to take your breath away.

Sunset magazine suggests L’Auberge de Sedona, on the banks of picturesque Oak Creek, for your romantic weekend getaway. Choose from a range of “Love Series” packages to make your trip truly special, including “The Maiden Voyage” (for couples on their first weekend getaway) to the “Babymoon” (for those who want some alone time before the arrival of a little one).

4. Saranac Lake, N.Y.

For some, a romantic getaway doesn’t necessarily mean a five-star resort. Outdoorsy types can head to the Empire State’s scenic Adirondack region, which offers all-season opportunities for getting back in touch with nature, from river rafting in the summer to downhill skiing in the winter.

For a truly exclusive getaway, couples can even retreat to their own private island. Sites at the Saranac Lake Islands campground are accessible only via boat. The combination of dramatic scenery and near-total privacy prompted Fathom Away to dub this spot one of the most romantic places to stay in the northeastern U.S. Best of all, campsites can be reserved for just $22 a night.

5. Olympic National Park, Wash.

Couples who want to combine outdoor adventure with lodge luxury can’t go wrong with a trip to Olympic National Park. The 1-million acre park near Seattle is home to an impressive collection of quaint lodges and resorts. That’s one reason why Outside magazine recommended the area as the perfect destination for romantic Pacific Northwest getaway.

Lake Quinault Lodge, which was built in 1926 and is on the National Register of Historic Places, is a cozy place to unwind after spending a day exploring the area’s beaches, trails, lakes, and waterfalls. Some rooms have fireplaces, heated bathroom floors, and private balconies or patios.
