The Scary Clown Epidemic Has Caused McDonald’s to Hide Ronald McDonald
As you may have heard, the world is in the grasp of a scary clown epidemic. What started as a hoax has now gathered enough steam thanks to curiosity and social media that people are actually committing crimes dressed as…clowns. And it’s not just happening in the US, either. Britain is reporting criminal clowns these days, too. Australia, too.
So naturally, people are a little guarded and suspicious around clowns these days. Well, even more than they usually are. That means that businesses that are unfortunate enough to have a clown serve as their spokesperson, logo, or mascot are having to rethink the way they’re branding themselves at the moment.
McDonald’s, quick to salvage its image as a place where you won’t get accosted by creepy clowns, has decided it’s best if they keep ole’ Ronald McDonald out of sight for a while until this whole clown thing blows over.

A spokesperson for the company has issued a statement saying:
“McDonald’s and franchisees in the local markets are mindful of the current climate around clown sightings in communities and as such are being thoughtful in respect to Ronald McDonald’s participation in community events for the time being,”
Sounds reasonable. Frankly, any excuse to rid the world of one more freaky clown is probably welcome by the public, but I’m sure they multi-billion dollar corporation would much rather be doing so on their own terms, rather than in response to whatever the hell is going on in our world with unsettling clowns.
