The Real Reason Americans Love to Hate Hope Hicks

The mass exodus of President Donald Trump’s employees reflects the clear turmoil within his administration, so Hope Hicks’ departure as White House Communications Director comes by no surprise. After all, she made history as the youngest individual to ever hold the job — even if it was for less than 200 days. The Feb. 28 announcement of her resignation makes her the fourth person to bid the position farewell.

The tumultuous reign of Hope Hicks comes riddled with scandal. Her questionable involvement in the Russian meddling of the 2016 election and response to abuse allegations against White House Staff Secretary Rob Porter appears to be the icing on a very dramatic cake.

Americans on both sides of the political spectrum found Hicks’ presence in the White House to be downright frustrating and mystifying, but why? Here’s the real reason Americans love to hate Hope Hicks.

1. Americans felt she was never qualified for the job

When Hicks was crowned the communications director of the White House, Americans became even more confused by Trump and his administration. Prior to hitting the campaign trail with Trump, Hicks was working for Ivanka and the Trump Organization, meaning she had absolutely zero political experience. That simple fact irritated Trump supporters and haters alike.

2. She is mysterious

The frustration that accompanies Hicks attempts to maintain a thread of privacy throughout her stint with Trump simply does not jive with the American way of life. Instant gratification and the all-knowing culture of the 21st century still does not shed a glimmer of light on who Hicks is and how she so quickly earned the trust of Trump. Her need to maintain an ounce of a private life drives the country bonkers.

3. Her relationship with Trump is maddening

Hicks quickly became one of Trump’s closest advisers, outlasting a slew of nearly 20 members of his staff being either kicked to the curb or tipping their hats to bid the administration farewell. Regardless, Hicks had an in and managed to earn the trust of Trump — well, for a while. She testified to the House Intelligence Committee one day before her resignation was announced, letting the cat out of the bag by admitting to telling “white lies” on Trump’s behalf.

4. She is ridiculously beautiful

Little denial exists when it comes to Hicks’ beauty. With legs to kill and a face to make nearly anyone’s heart melt, she may be the best-looking person to roam the halls of Trump’s White House. As a teen, she spent a fair amount of time modeling. These simple facts alone stir the curiosity of whether it’s her wit or good looks that made Trump want to keep her around. While the speculation will always exist, her ridiculous beauty makes Americans love to hate her.

Many politicians and business professionals will agree with age comes more experience and hopefully wisdom. And when it is the United States that needs to properly and safely run, a 29-year-old communications director does not sit well. The lack of experience and Hicks young age suggested that she may not have been well-equipped to fully take the reigns of the tasks at hand.

6. She wasn’t keen on being interviewed

All anyone wants is to hear what she has to say. But Hicks does not appear to be interested in interviews. Amid press conferences and appearances, Hicks was ever-present but silent. And because of that, onlooking Americans felt like she was up to no good. Maybe she was, maybe she wasn’t. Many fingers will remain crossed in hopes that Hicks will eventually break her silence to share with the nation her experiences of working for Trump and his administration.

According to Politico, Trump gifted Hicks a nickname that stuck — the “Hopester.” She has also been labeled the “Trump Whisperer,” as she was allegedly able to effortlessly navigate the president’s moods (although it is fuzzy why anyone would want that responsibility). Of Trump’s hyperbolic tweets, it was often Hicks typing as the president dictated. Needless to say, her presence in the Oval Office will likely be missed by Trump and his administration.
