These Are the American Horses to Watch at the Royal Ascot

The exciting 2018 Royal Ascot meet kicked off on Tuesday, June 19th and runs until Saturday, June 23rd. This year, several American contenders are bidding for glory across the time, and NBC will be televising the action on Saturday for the first time. NBC Sports will cover the Tuesday through Friday races. Now, if you’re wondering which are the American horses to watch, wonder no more. Just check out the full race schedule below. But first, learn a bit more about the event.

The event

Royal Ascot is Britain’s most important horserace, according to the Royal Ascot website, attracting the world’s best racehorses to compete for more than £7.3m — or 9.6 million U.S. dollars — in prize money. Each year, the race draws about 300 million attendees — including the queen and other royal family members — and everyone goes dressed to the nines. Queen Anne founded Ascot Racecourse in 1711, and 11 monarchs have patronized it since. In 1911, the Ascot summer race meeting officially became a royal event. As you can see from the schedule, the week’s races are named with royal themes.

It’s no surprise the royals don’t sit with commoners — instead, they have their own royal enclosure at Ascot. Membership is by invitation only, and if you’re a member you must follow some rules. The formal dress code requires me to wear full morning suits and women must wear the fanciest hats they can find. Everyone gathers to watch the royal procession arrive and picnicking beforehand is a long-standing tradition.

The horses

This year there are plenty of horses from the U.S. to keep an eye on. According to the Paulick Report, the race schedule — and the American hopefuls in those races — is as follows:
