These Downtown Disney Hot Spots Are Closing Soon to Make Room For a New Resort
A brand new four diamond resort will be opening near Disneyland in 2021.
“This new hotel will connect all of what will be four Disneyland hotels with walkways lined by lush gardens, completely transforming the west end of the Downtown Disney District. Construction is set to begin this summer,” says the Disney Food Blog.
To make room for the new hotel, Downtown Disney will be losing some of it’s beloved eateries and businesses (all by June 30, 2018). Read on to find out which ones.
1. Rainforest Cafe
“Enter a mystical Incan temple for a fun-filled family feast in the middle of a lush tropical rainforest,” reads the Downtown Disney website. Up until it’s closing date, Rainforest Cafe has been the perfect place to grab a bite to eat either before or after a magical day at Disney. Though the decor is first rate, this particular location scored only three stars on Yelp due to poor service and food that’s sub par.

2. ESPN Zone
Another fun eatery, ESPN Zone, will also be lost to Disney’s latest hotel. ESPN Zone is known for it’s sports-mania atmosphere, American cuisine, and interactive games and TVs. This restaurant/bar receives mixed reviews on Yelp. Some customers leave positive reviews for the fun atmosphere, while others are disappointed with the quality of the food and high prices.
Next: No more going to the movies in Downtown Disney.
3. AMC 12 Theatres
If you enjoyed breaking up your Disney vacation with a movie partway through the trip, we have some bad news for you. The AMC Theatres in Downtown Disney is also closing. With 12 screens that offer comfortable stadium seating, this is a big loss for locals and visitors alike.

4. Earl of Sandwich
The Earl of Sandwich in Downtown Disney has been a favorite eatery of Disney goers for years. The Disney Food Blog gave the location a rave review, applauding the shop’s pepperoni pizza bread and berry chicken almond salad. If you haven’t been yet, this is one you might want to catch before it closes.
Next: Disney has plenty of these, but we’ll still miss this one …
Ok, Disney isn’t exactly hurting for Starbucks locations. Only the west side Downtown location is closing. But, as every true Disney patron knows, having plenty of opportunities for caffeine can be invaluable on an exhausting theme park trip.
Next: This Disney business is just moving to a new location.
6. Walt Disney Travel Company
The Walt Disney Travel Company helps guests with all of their vacation needs. “Get answers to vacation questions, arrange a trip or modify travel plans at this Downtown Disney District destination,” advertises the Disneyland website. Thankfully, though this Travel Company will be closing to make room for the new hotel, it will be relocating to a new Downtown location, according to the Disney Food Blog.

7. Alamo Rent-a-Car
For those who like to rent a car right in the heart of Downtown Disney, you’re going to need to find a new place to rent a vehicle for your trip to Anaheim. Located on South Disneyland Dr., this is another Downtown Disney location that’ll be lost to the newest Disney hotel.
