These Are All the Adorable Things Chip and Joanna Gaines Can Do With Their Kids Now That ‘Fixer Upper’ Is Over
Now that Chip and Joanna Gaines aren’t filming Fixer Upper 11 months out of the year, they should have more time to spend with their (growing!) family. And that means that they’ll likely have more time to enjoy their children’s growing list of hobbies and activities. In an adorable Instagram post, Chip wrote, “I love that each has their own ‘thing’—photography, fishing, gymnastics, sports….they never stop making me laugh. I’m so proud of each of them!”
Read on to discover all of the adorable things that the Gaines kids do in their free time. It just might give you some clues as to what Chip and Joanna will be up to now that they’ve moved on from Fixer Upper.
1. Duke likes gardening with Joanna
With a mom who loves gardening as much as Joanna does, it’s no surprise that a few of the Gaines kids seem to have taken to life in the garden. Joanna noted in an Instagram post that Duke helps her out in the garden, especially with harvesting. Even years ago, he helped with pecan-picking! Another post shows multiple Gaines kids hanging out in the newly-revamped garden.

2. Emmie has a collection of houseplants
Duke isn’t the only Gaines kid who seems to love plants! Emmie also seems to have a green thumb, just like her mom. She especially seems to love houseplants and the other plants that Joanna grows in the family’s greenhouse. In an Instagram post, Joanna wrote, “I told her she would get a new plant every month if she keeps up with all her little cuties. We are running out of space.” Emmie even started a collection of beansprouts.

3. Emmie also has a talent for design
All the Gaines kids have helped their parents behind the scenes on Fixer Upper. So we bet that they’ve all picked up some design (or demo) skills along the way. But at least one of Chip and Joanna’s kids might stick with it even though the show has wrapped. In one Instagram post, Joanna refers to Emmie as her “mini designer.” Emmie also had a “paint date” with her mom.

4. But Ella could be the one to take over the family business
Country Living speculates that Ella could be the one who takes over the family business someday. Ella also found herself in the spotlight on the show as she helped her mom design a room. And another Instagram post showed Ella mixing up her own paint colors. And Ella even helped her mom design wallpaper — which would be a pretty formidable task even for a trained designer! Plus, Ella even asked her mom if she could be a designer when she grows up.

5. Duke is a cowboy, just like his dad
As Country Living notes, Duke seems to have already learned how to be a cowboy, just like his dad. From wearing cowboy boots and a cowboy hat to accompanying his dad to buy more animals, Duke seems to love life on the farm. Joanna captioned one Instagram post, “A friend just sent me this pic of Chip and Duke at the cattle auction. He creates so many teachable moments with the kids- Duke is gonna be a heck of a man because of it.”

6. Drake is a good football player
Country Living reports that Drake is the football player of the family. And it sounds like he has some real talent for the game, too! On one episode of Fixer Upper, Chip said that Drake has a great arm. Plus, an Instagram post showed Duke and Drake meeting Baylor’s football coach — a pretty big deal for kids whose parents both went to Baylor.

7. Ella and Emmie enjoy arts and crafts
Both Ella and Emmie seem to excel at creative crafts, whether that’s sewing or knitting or spinning pottery. One of Joanna’s Instagram posts showed Ella working on a weaving project, while another revealed that Ella and Emmie made a quilt together. Emmie has apparently taken to knitting. And the girls have tried their hands at making ceramics and creating jewelry.

8. The whole family watches baseball, but Duke really loves it
Country Living notes that though Drake loves football, Duke is a big fan of baseball. Chip said on one episode of Fixer Upper that Duke is a lefty and “a heck of a ball player.” As Country Living notes, it makes sense that Duke would love the sport. Chip played college baseball for Baylor. And as a kid, Chip aspired to become either a professional baseball player or a politician. According to an Instagram post from Chip, the whole Gaines family seems to enjoy watching baseball.

9. Duke (and likely the other kids, too!) enjoys reading
While there’s plenty of excitement on the farm, it sounds like Chip and Joanna get to enjoy some quiet moments, too. According to an Instagram post from Chip, it looks like Duke, especially, enjoys reading. Sure, kids all do some reading for school. But Chip wrote, “I love it when my kids find books they want to read voluntarily!”

10. The girls like baking with their mom
Ella and Emmie take after their mom in another adorable way. They both enjoy baking and whipping up batches of sweet treats in the farmhouse kitchen. Everything they bake looks delicious, of course. But we’re also completely jealous that Ella and Emmie get to learn the ins and outs of baking from their mom. Joanna is, after all, the genius behind all of the amazing cupcakes on the menu at the Silos Baking Company.

12. All four of the kids enjoy racing around the farm
Chip and Joanna seem to be raising kids who aren’t afraid to get dirty. So it comes as no surprise that the kids enjoy getting around the farm in a variety of ways. An Instagram post showed the kids gearing up for a race on go-karts and dirt bikes. And another, in which Chip proudly proclaimed “Everything boys can do, girls can do better,” showed Ella and Emmie driving through a pretty deep puddle. The kids also seem to have scooters, a perennial favorite of kids everywhere!

13. The Gaines kids all love animals
Taking care of all of the animals who live on the farm is likely a big part of the typical day for the Gaines family. But fortunately, all of the Gaines children seem to genuinely love that part of farm life. Even a quick glance at Chip or Joanna’s Instagram reveals that the Gaines kids love their animals. They seem to love spending time with the goats and the dogs, the cows, the cats, and the bunnies.

14. The whole family travels occasionally
Now that Chip and Joanna don’t have to spend all their time on set for Fixer Upper, they may have more time for family vacations and getaways. If we had to guess, the Gaines kids have some pretty great vacations in their future. The family has already gone skiing in Colorado and exploring around New York. They’ve also enjoyed Disney World in Orlando, and Chip and Joanna seem to make a point of choosing destinations that everybody can enjoy together.

15. And they all do typical kid things
Chip and Joanna let their kids be kids. So it’s no surprise that the kids play hide and seek in the cornfields and go wading in ponds. They go exploring no matter what clothes (or shoes) they’re wearing. Like many kids, they find entertainment even in simple things like a pack of plastic cups. The Gaines kids (and their dad!) seem to love superheroes. They go fishing, get their mom to ride a hoverboard, go swimming, go pretend-camping, and play mini golf — just like many other kids across America.
