While the queen usually saves the big celebrations for her official birthday in June, her family members pulled out all the stops for her 92nd birthday on April 21, 2017. The only thing missing? Two of her beloved family members, Kate Middleton and Prince Philip.

2. Prince Harry was in charge of the gift
What do you get a woman who has it all? A charity in her name is a great start. As president of the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust, Prince Harry gave a moving speech about the organization, honoring his grandmother’s life of service.
After joking about how the queen is not easy to buy gifts for, Harry went on to introduce the new organization, stating: “As we celebrated your 92nd birthday this evening and in recognition of your incredible life of service, I am delighted to say that the Queen’s Commonwealth Trust has now been launched to support young leaders around the Commonwealth.”

3. Prince Charles gave the toast
No party is complete without a toast and Prince Charles upped the ante by asking attendees to give the birthday girl a “hip hip hooray” to “your majesty mummy.”
Following the toast, balloons the venue dropped balloons and shot off firecrackers.

4. Meghan Markle was invited
Historically, fiancés are not invited to royal family events until after the wedding. However, the queen has broken this rule on several occasions for Meghan Markle and her 92nd birthday party was no exception.

The entertainment of the night? A private concert featuring Sir Tom Jones, Kylie Minogue, Shawn Mendes, Sting, and Shaggy (though, the queen had no idea who he was, so Will had to explain in her ear mid-performance).

The one thing missing from her birthday celebration? Her granddaughter-in-law, Kate Middleton. Due to go into labor at any moment, Kate skipped the event and awaited the arrival of her son at home.
William and Kate welcomed a baby boy into the world two days later on Monday, April 23, 2018.
