Johnny Depp is suing his ex-wife, Amber Heard for $50 million, alleging that Heard has strategically worked to destroy his career while furthering her own. The actress, who is best known for her roles in Justice League and Aquaman, might have more to worry about than the looming lawsuit. Rumors are now swirling that the Hollywood bombshell will be dropped from Aquaman 2 if the allegations against her prove to be true.
Is Amber Heard’s role in jeopardy due to the Johnny Depp lawsuit?
While early reports had Amber Heard slated to reprise her role as Mera, her role in the film is now in doubt. According to Cosmic Book News, Heard may be dropped from the movie if Depp’s lawsuit goes forward. Depp was famously cut from the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise when Heard accused the veteran actor of emotional and physical abuse during their marriage.
Due to the early development of the film, the production studio has not yet released the cast list. While it was assumed Heard, whose character was among the franchises’ most popular, would be reprising her role as Mera, the prospect of her return is beginning to look murky. It is possible that the production studio will choose to go in a different direction; either by recasting Heard or leaving Mera’s character out of the second film.
What are the allegations levied against Amber Heard?
Johnny Depp filed a lawsuit in a Virginia court in March 2019 that alleges Heard has been actively attempting to defame the actor’s character. The lawsuit, which stems from an op-ed written by Heard for The Washington Post, goes on to accuse Heard of being abusive during her 15-month marriage to the Pirates of the Caribbean actor.
Depp submitted supporting evidence to his claims. The evidence include surveillance videos, character witnesses and photographs. According to USA Today, Depp goes on to accuse the starlet of punching him in the face and severing his finger during heated arguments. Several of the critical witnesses named in the lawsuit are police officers.
Heard, who became a spokesperson for the #metoo movement, has been outspoken about the abuse she alleges she suffered at the hands of the actor. The actress and her proponents point to a video of Depp slamming around the house as evidence of his abusive nature. TMZ weighed in on the footage.
Depp’s ex, Vanessa Paradis, famously defended the star when the abuse allegations surfaced in 2016. Paradis, in a letter, noted that Depp had never been abusive during their 14-year relationship. She went on to call her former partner kind and loving, according to Us Magazine.
