It’s that time of year again for the British royal family to take part in holiday traditions. Chief among them is heading to Sandringham to celebrate Christmas. In honor of the festivities revisit some of Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton’s Christmas outfits. From hats and gloves to boots and coats, the Duchesses of Sussex and Cambridge have buddled up with the best of them on Christmas Day.

1. Kate Christmas look was all about layers in 2013

During her second royal Christmas — Kate skipped the previous year to spend the holiday with her side of the family — Kate’s Christmas outfit consisted of all sorts of cozy pieces. Despite walking to church wearing a green plaid coatdress and boots she, at one point, had on another two layers.

Seen arriving for Christmas Day service with Queen Elizabeth, Kate sported a camel coat and what appears to be a plaid cape-shawl-scarf combination.

2. Meghan got cozy in a camel coat in 2017

Possibly taking a cue from her sister-in-law, Meghan wore a long coat, boots, and coordinating accessories to her first Christmas with the royal family in 2017. With velvet and suede accents, Meghan looked all sorts of cozy.

While Meghan’s Christmas outfit didn’t stray from the norm the simple fact that she showed up did. Meghan broke royal tradition because, typically, no girlfriends and boyfriends are allowed. At the time she and Harry had only recently become engaged and their royal wedding wouldn’t take place for another five months.

3. Kate’s Christmas outfit in 2019 was a little too cozy

Kate’s mastered her royal style but even she has a misstep or two. On Christmas Day 2019, the now-39-year-old stepped out for the royal family’s Christmas walk to church. She headed to the Church of St. Mary Magdalene alongside Prince William and their two oldest kids, Prince George, 8, and Princess Charlotte, 6.

Kate’s Christmas look consisted of her usual winter outfit formula. She wore a long coat, heels, and coordinating accessories. Like every other Christmas Day spent with the royal family, Kate smiled as she greeted well-wishers. However, Kate regretted her outfit because of the high temperatures that day.

That’s right, Kate’s Christmas look was a little too cozy. Karen Anvil, who was there at Sandringham to see royals that day, told the U.K.’s Metro what she and her daughter, Rachel, talked about with Kate and Charlotte.

“Kate was talking to my daughter about clothes and how she was feeling too hot, she said ‘I really shouldn’t have worn this,’” Anvil said. “I’m there talking to Charlotte about dolls and my daughter’s talking about fashion with Kate.”

Needless to say, Kate might think twice about her 2021 Christmas outfit depending on the weather.

4. Meghan had a cozy Christmas card moment in 2019

Not technically one of Meghan’s Christmas Day looks but this one had to be included. When she and Harry revealed their 2019 Christmas card on Twitter, the former Suits star had on a cozy turtleneck sweater. And who can’t forget about Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor’s adorable sweater too?
