The middle of winter isn’t always the most enjoyable time to be a film fan. Many studios save their biggest, flashiest movies for the summer or Holiday season. This February may turn out to be a bit different, though, with a handful of new anticipated films premiering. Whether you’re into steamy romance, sci-fi adventure, spy thrillers, or some childish laughs, there’s a good chance you’ll find a movie worth seeing next month. Here are four films that could keep audiences excited as they head into spring.

1. Jupiter Ascending

The Wachowski Brothers (The Matrix Trilogy) return for another action-packed adventure with this sci-fi drama. Jupiter Ascending stars Mila Kunis as Jupiter Jones, a janitor who learns she’s heir to an unimaginable throne — ruler of the Earth. Channing Tatum, Douglas Booth, Sean Bean, and The Theory of Everything’s Eddie Redmayne also star in this interplanetary saga. Jupiter Ascending opens nationwide, both in 2D and 3D IMAX, on February 6.

2. SpongeBob: Sponge Out of Water

Maybe it’s been a while since you spent some time with the guy who lives in a pineapple under the sea. But chances are, you’ve heard of SpongeBob Squarepants. The sea creature, who’s made a name for himself as a Nickelodeon cartoon since 1999, will take his second shot at the big screen with this feature length film. SpongeBob: Sponge Out of Water blends animation and live action to take the audience on an adventure with the titular character and his pals. You can find out what happens when SpongeBob spends time on dry land when the film hits theaters on February 6.

3. Kingsman: The Secret Service

Kingsman: The Secret Service has the potential to be a Hollywood hit: an all-star cast, comic book origins, and some early critical praise that could help its word of mouth. Colin Firth, Michael Caine, Samuel L. Jackson, and Taron Egerton lead a large ensemble in this film, which tells the story of a veteran spy and his young protege. Matthew Vaughn directed Kingsman, which blends action and elements of classic spy thrillers — and many critics have already lauded, calling it “a blast” and “a delicious blend of streetwise savvy and old-fashioned espionage motifs.” The film opens in the United States on February 13.

4. Fifty Shades of Grey

One of the best-selling book series of all-time hits the big screen for the first time. Fifty Shades of Grey, about a young billionaire who seduces an insecure college grad and introduces her to BDSM, made an enormous splash when it was published in 2011. Now, it’s a film, directed by Sam Taylor-Johnson and starring Jamie Dornan as the mysterious Mr. Grey and Dakota Johnson as Anastasia Steele, the young woman he sets his sights on. The film has already generated enormous buzz, both for its sultry marketing scheme and the promise of more than one graphic bedroom scene. You can see for yourself if Fifty Shades of Grey lives up to the hype when it hits theaters February 13.
