Every week, we take an in-depth look at the latest rumors coming out of Hollywood, from casting news to rumored directorial choices to the latest Netflix revivals. This week brought us of plenty of Tinsel Town gossip, including the latest on Marvel’s Doctor Strange and the possibility of Arrow star Stephen Arnell guest starring on Supernatural. Below, check out five of the biggest Hollywood rumors this week.
1. Marvel’s Doctor Strange may introduce another Infinity Stone
So far, the MCU has introduced four of the six Infinity Stones, the powerful gems that Thanos has been trying to collect. That leaves two stones — the time stone and the soul stone — left to discover at some point in the upcoming movies. So who will uncover them? According to recent comments from Marvel’s Kevin Feige, it looks like Doctor Strange could be the one to introduce the former.
“In this film, the [Eye of Agamotto ] is a very important relic that can be quite dangerous if used in the wrong hands, because it has the ability to do any number of things, the most dangerous of which is, it can sort of manipulate probabilities. Which is also another way of saying, ‘screw around with time’ — which is part of our story,” he recently told Entertainment Weekly.
That certainly sounds like the time gem. Plus, having Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange uncover one of the Infinity Stones would be a good way to tie the otherwise separate movie to the rest of the MCU. We’ll have to wait for the movie to see if the rumors come to fruition though.
2. Captain America: Civil War might end with this major spoiler
Spoiler alert: A new rumor from the YouTube channel That Hashtag Show claims to have learned new details about how the upcoming Civil War will end. According to Comicbook.com, a “source close to production” told That Hashtag Show that the movie “begins with a funeral scene and ends with a funeral scene.” So whose death should fans expect? The opening funeral is reportedly for Peggy Carter (Hayley Atwell), as previously leaked set photos confirmed in May.
But the final funeral scene might be a little more surprising. According to the rumor, the second funeral will be for Captain America himself: Steve Rogers. “During the film, Steve will make a deal with the government, stating that they are not to hunt down the people that allied with him in the Civil War. After Steve surrenders and is taken into custody he is killed,” That Hashtag Show reported. So will that really be the case? It would match up with the comics, but it’s probably best to take this rumor with a grain of salt for now.
3. Castle‘s eighth season may be its last
The ABC series, currently in its eighth season, hasn’t been faring well in its ratings recently, leading some to believe that the show will come to an end sooner rather than later. Showrunners Terence Paul Winter and Alexi Hawley recently confirmed that while aren’t ready to throw in the towel on the show, there is a chance that the network may decide otherwise. In case Castle does fail to get renewed, the two have crafted a season eight finale that will also work for a series finale. “We hope to come back for Season 9, but we have to act as if [we might not],” Winter said. Hawley agreed, stating that ABC likely “won’t make that decision until very late. So our plan is just to tell a satisfying story and try to wrap up the season in an exciting way.” Fans will have to stay tuned for the network’s final decision.
4. Is Arrow star Stephen Arnell heading to Supernatural?
As TVLine recently confirmed, an upcoming episode of Supernatural will feature Sam (Jared Padalecki) and Dean (Jensen Ackles) helping out a group of wrestlers on tour who are being haunted by some supernatural force. Among the new characters revealed from the episode are a wrestling legend named Gunnar Lawless, a rookie called Shawn Harley and a wrestling manager named Rio. While casting for the roles hasn’t been announced yet, the announcement of the episode immediately sparked a rumor that Arrow star Arnell may be recruited to take on the role of Shawn.
As fans know, Arnell has personal experience with professional wrestling, even winning a Slammy Award for a match against WWE superstar Stardust. So will he bring that experience to guest star on Supernatural? He has a pretty busy schedule, but since both shows air on The CW, there’s definitely a possibility.
5. Batman v. Superman might lead into Justice League with closing credits
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice will be Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment’s first real move toward launching a full-fledged cinematic universe. That means the movie will some work to do in setting up future films, like the planned Justice League flicks. So how exactly does director Zack Snyder plan to do that? According to the latest rumor from Heroic Hollywood, the connection will be established via the final credits.
“The closing credits on Batman v Superman will consist of a montage sequence reminiscent of what Zack Snyder did with the opening credits on Watchmen … the montage gave us the history of The Minutemen and set the tone of the world of Watchmen,” Heroic Hollywood wrote, adding that the director will use the same technique to set up The Justice League. Snyder or Warner Bros., for their part, have not commented on the possibility.
