5 Hollywood Rumors: Which DC Hero Will Join ‘Legends of Tomorrow’?
Every week, we take an in-depth look at the latest rumors coming out of Hollywood, from casting news to rumored directorial choices to the latest TV revivals. This week brought us plenty more gossip, including the potential addition of a new hero on Legends of Tomorrow and the possibility of a Gotham spin-off. Below, check out five of the biggest Hollywood rumors of the week.
1. Legends of Tomorrow may soon introduce a new hero
The CW’s team-up series has officially been renewed for a second season, leading viewers to wonder whether the current cast of characters will all return. But it looks like fans can rest easy: According to TVLine, the cast is basically staying the same — with one big possible addition. The report claims that the show will introduce a “beloved superhero from the DC canon” in the final scene of their upcoming freshman season finale. The still-unidentified hero will reportedly have a mysterious agenda that serves as a “launching off point for season 2.”
Who could this new hero be? Nothing has been confirmed but fans have already started throwing around possibilities, including fan-favorite character Booster Gold. The CW, for its part, has not commented on the rumor so far, so fans will have to stay tuned to find out more. Legends of Tomorrow’s season one finale airs on May 19.
2. Gotham may get a spin-off
Rumors over the possibility of a Gotham spin-off have long been circulating, but it seems like the idea could soon be coming to fruition. According to Gizmodo, DC Comics has recently registered a trademark for a new ” live-action, dramatic comedy television series” called Pennyworth. As comic fans know, Pennyworth is the last name of the Wayne family butler, Alfred.
So is Alfred (who is currently played by Sean Pertwee on Gotham) getting his own spin-off? That seems like the obvious answer, but it’s still too early to tell for sure.
3. The role of young Han Solo might be down to its last three contenders
The search for a young actor to play Han Solo in an upcoming Star Wars spin-off may finally be nearing its end. According to The Hollywood Reporter, there are only a handful of contenders still in line for the highly coveted part. This rumored shortlist includes actors Alden Ehrenreich, who recently delivered a scene-stealing turn in Hail, Caesar!; Jack Reynor, known for his work in Transformers: Age of Extinction; and Taron Egerton, the star of The Kingsman and Eddie the Eagle. All these actors reportedly conducted tests for the role in London this month.
Per THR, sources say there could be a few other names on the list, but those are still unclear, due to the high level of secrecy on all Star Wars projects. These three are among the frontrunners of a group of 10 actors who initially met with directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller (which reportedly also included Ansel Elgort, Miles Teller, and Brooklyn’s Emory Cohen).
Whether one of these rumored finalists will actually nab the part still remains to be seen. Disney has declined to comment so far.
4. Jay and Silent Bob may make a cameo on The Flash
Went for some coffee at #ccjitters and found @jayandsilentbob loitering in front of the store. Yesterday was a productive Day 2 on the episode of #TheFlash that I’m “directing”, with the cast, crew & I shooting four different scenes in the Cortex and Medical Bay at #StarLabs! I call it “directing” because neither cast nor crew need my guidance here to make something great. We shot some big little scenes yesterday that will break your heart and speed-force it back together again in that way only #TheFlash can. I love this show, so seeing how it really happens behind the scenes has been nothing short of thrilling. We start Day 3 of 8 in a couple of hours… #KevinSmith #jaymewes #centralcity #vancouver #jayandsilentbob #runbarryrun #funbarryfun
As previously announced, director Kevin Smith will be helming an upcoming episode of the CW’s hit series, The Flash. Fans have been wondering whether he’ll bring his well-known directorial style to the show and it seems the answer is yes. The director recently posted a photo of himself on the show’s set with Jason Mewes, writing, “Went for some coffee at #ccjitters and found @jayandsilentbob loitering in front of the store.”
Though Smith stopped short of confirming that the duo would make an onscreen appearance, he certainly seems to be strongly hinting that his signature characters, Jay and Silent Bob, will make a cameo in the upcoming episode. Plus, it would be just like Smith to bring his signature stamp to The Flash.
We’ll have to wait for the episode to see if we catch a glimpse of Jay and Silent Bob. The still-untitled episode is set to air sometime in late April or early May.
5. The Crow remake may not be moving forward
After many setbacks and delays, the long-developing remake of The Crow may officially be dead. According to THR, the newly reorganized Relativity Media has run into some major trouble with the attempted reboot. The original producers Edward R. Pressman Film Corporation have reportedly taken legal action in order to prevent Relativity from making any prequels, sequels, or remake of the 1994 cult classic action film. The legal action comes after new head of production Dana Brunetti fired director Corin Hardy – a decision that Pressman says it was not consulted about and has since objected to.
It’s unclear where exactly this leaves the project, but things aren’t exactly too hopeful. Relativity, for its part, remained vague in it a statement to THR, saying, “With Dana coming aboard, we are giving him full creative rein. We want him to be able to reboot The Crow under his vision and guidance. We are optimistic he will create the best package for such an iconic franchise.”
