Internet rumors and celebrity gossip may destroy more brain cells than alcohol and tobacco combined, but that doesn’t stop us from geeking out about them anyway. Each week we bring you 5 of the juiciest, most absurd, and very likely made-up rumors from across the web. Beware of potential spoilers: These rumors may be rooted in unfounded conjecture, but every now and then the rumor-mongers get it right.
1. Will Jackie Chan star in Expendables 4?
Your favorite franchise featuring old-ass action stars clinging to relevancy like its the last chopper out of ‘Nam may be adding a new star to its ranks. Rumor has it that Stallone is trying to woo Jackie Chan to the upcoming film, but Chan’s busy filming schedule may prove to hectic to fit in Expendables 4. Stallone is apparently hoping to restore the franchise to its former glory, and has been scouring Hollywood for fresh blood to help make that happen. Other celebrity action stars whose names have reportedly been in the running including The Rock, Pierce Brosnan, and Manny Pacquiao.
2. Thor: Ragnarok may introduce two very important female characters to the MCU
Marvel Comic fanatics, this one’s for you. Two of the most important female characters from the Thor universe may be making an appearance in the upcoming movie. The uber-badass Valkyrie, Asgardian leader of the warrior goddesses, is rumored to play a major role in the film. Even better than the addition of a female superhero, however, is the introduction of a female villain! Fan-favorite Amora the Enchantress could be Thor’s main enemy in this movie. If these rumors are true, Ragnarok could end up being the best Marvel movie since the first Avengers.
3. Is Guns N’ Roses reuniting for a world tour?
Every rumor has its thorns, but this one seems like the most legitimate on this week’s list. In a twitter Q&A with fans, Motley Crue member Nikki Sixx was asked if he thought the original Guns N’ Roses band lineup should reunite for a tour. “They are. Everybody knows,” Sixx responded. Rumors have been flying for a while that Axl Rose has made peace with his former band mates, but this has given that gossip teeth like never before.
4. Is Bryan Singer going to kill Magneto in X-Men: Apocalypse?
There’s been a lot of buzz this week about the next X-Men movie, particularly surrounding what Bryan Singer plans to do with Magneto. One rumor suggests that Mystique (played by Jennifer Lawrence one last time) and Magneto will fall in love. Considering that every X-Men movie so far has played with the sexual tension between the two characters, that wouldn’t be a particularly surprising turn of events. More shocking, however, is the idea that Apocalypse could kill off Magneto altogether. In truth, we’ve seen several major characters die throughout the films (includoing Jean Grey, Cyclops, and Professor X) only for all of them to come back to life for a variety of time-travel based reasons. Even if this is true, I seriously doubt it means the end of Magneto for future X-Men films.
5. Is Luke Skywalker a villain in Star Wars: The Force Awakens?
Probably not, but I’ll be damned if Internet-bloggers everywhere aren’t thinking he might be. Based on some maniacally intense analyzing of every single frame of every single Force Awakens trailer from EVERY SINGLE country on earth, nerds across the world are piecing together what they think is going on with Skywalker in the new movie (because obviously it would be awful if they just waited patiently for another month and saw the movie with fresh eyes). The general consensus is that Skywalker is living in self-imposed exile after Return of the Jedi and the story of overthrowing the evil Empire has become an urban legend. With the social order of the galaxy once again falling into upheaval, Skywalker may find himself battling the very forces that consider themselves the good guys.
