5 Must-See TV and Movie Trailers: ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and More
Movie season is barreling straight into spring, and with that comes some of Hollywood’s biggest releases. Before we can see any of these exciting new movies though, we’re relegated to gleaning as much as we can from trailers. This week’s round features footage we’ve been waiting on for awhile now, from a certain HBO fantasy series, to the next installment in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Let’s dive in and take a look for ourselves!
1. Game of Thrones, Season 6
The new season of Game of Thrones comes paired with a host of unanswered questions. Is Jon Snow really dead? Did Sansa and Theon survive their leap from the battlements of Winterfell? Is anything even remotely happy going to happen this season? HBO has finally provided us a few hints in the form of a full-length red band trailer. In it, we see what appears to be the very dead looking corpse of Jon Snow. Game of Thrones seems to be executing one of two things with this latest evidence: The cruelest bait-and-switch ever, or further evidence that there’s no hope to found anywhere in Westeros. Whichever it is, color us excited for the season premiere on April 24.
2. Captain America: Civil War
Marvel has been hyping Captain America: Civil War nonstop for the last few months, and it’s led many to wonder if there are truly any surprises left in the can before its May release. The second full-length trailer answers that question with a resounding “hell yes,” showing us more of the epic battle among heroes, as well as the first appearance from Tom Holland as the newly rebooted Spider-Man. Suffice it to say, this has all the makings of Marvel’s most ambitious project to date, and a superhero lineup including almost the entirety of the MCU’s lineup of heroes is proof positive.
Last week, we were treated to the first trailer for Paul Feig’s upcoming Ghostbusters reboot, giving us all sorts of footage of the new-look team of paranormal warriors. We now have an international trailer to boot, and it’s a doozy. We get a whole lot more Chris Hemsworth, and a few extra scenes with the fully-armed Ghostbusters, making us wonder why they didn’t just release this version in the first place.
4. Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping
Over the last few years, we’ve been treated to a series of self-indulgent popstar tour movies. Artists like Justin Bieber, Katy Perry, and One Direction have all indulged in this, making it only a matter of time before someone nailed the format to the wall in parody form. Enter The Lonely Island, the satirical pop trio composed of Andy Samberg, Jorma Taccone, and Akiva Schaffer. With the help of Judd Apatow and an army of comedians, they’ve created Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping, the quintessential parody movie we’ve needed for awhile now.
5. Kubo and the Two Strings
LAIKA Studios has a long history of incredible animated movies. It’s a list that includes the likes of Coraline, ParaNorman, and The Boxtrolls, having established them as one of the premiere animation outfits in all of Hollywood. Already having released a couple teases for their next project, Kubo and the Two Strings, the newest trailer gives us tons of details on what we can expect. Based on what we’ve seen so far, it’s safe to say it’ll be yet another gorgeously executed movie from the folks at LAIKA, and we couldn’t be more excited.
