5 Must-See TV and Movie Trailers: ‘Doctor Strange’ and More

This last week could very well be the biggest we’ve ever had when it comes to new trailers. We have the latest from the world of Harry Potter, a lengthy promo for a certain HBO series, not one, but two new superhero teasers, and an extended look at an anticipated sequel from Michael Bay. Let’s jump right in, shall we?

1. Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them

It’s been a while since we got a new story from the wizarding world of Harry Potter, but soon our long wait will be over. We’re already getting the Cursed Child stage play novel, and Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them will arrive right on its heels. The film takes us to New York City, where Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne) has landed with a suitcase full of dangerous magical beasts. The first trailer shows tons of new footage, including a good hard look at Colin Farrell as an American wizard hot on Scamander’s trail.

2. Game of Thrones

We’re just two weeks away from the Season 6 premiere of Game of Thrones, and excitement is running high. The second full trailer does little to quell the anticipation either, giving us tons of juicy details on what we can expect. This season, tensions are boiling over with the Faith Militant at Kings Landing, Daenerys finds herself captured by the Dothraki, and Tyrion appears to be ruling in her place in Meereen. All told, it looks unquestionably awesome. Now let’s just hope Jon Snow is way less dead than the trailers have made him look.

3. Suicide Squad

In the wake of poor reviews for Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, there’s a lot riding on Suicide Squad‘s August release for DC/Warner Bros. A series of pricey reshoots has already been approved to infuse more humor into the project, and the latest trailer is proof positive that they worked like a dream. We see tons of levity and exciting action sequences, giving us hope that the joyless Batman v Superman won’t necessarily be setting the tone for DC’s fledgling film universe.

4. Doctor Strange

Our attention might be fixed on Captain America: Civil War right now, but Marvel has an equally interesting project releasing later this year in Doctor Strange. The first trailer treats us to everything we could want from the Sorcerer Supreme, taking us through the back-story of Stephen Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), as he goes from world-renowned neurosurgeon to the world’s greatest sorcerer following a brutal car accident. At least for now, it looks like it’ll be every bit as bizarre as its source comics, and we can’t help but look forward to a different kind of Marvel movie as a result.

5. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles 2

The first TMNT movie was everything you could expect from a Michael Bay-sponsored affair: bombastic action and a thin plot. The sequel though takes us through some of the franchise’s more iconic characters, introducing Casey Jones (Stephen Amell) and the infamous henchman duo of Bebop and Rocksteady. It probably won’t be on par with anything Marvel or DC is putting out this year, but odds are it’ll at least be a fun trip down memory lane for anyone who grew up on the Ninja Turtles cartoon series.
