5 Must-See TV and Movie Trailers: ‘Game of Thrones’ and More
Movies and TV are just beginning to heat up in 2016, as we move past the post-Oscar season drought and into the part of the year rife with blockbusters. This week’s trailers give us teases at just that, featuring the potential reveal of The Flash‘s big bad, the first footage from Season 6 of Game of Thrones, and a big announcement from the set of Star Wars: Episode VIII.
1. Alice Through the Looking Glass
Tim Burton’s fallen into something of a rut as a director, having doubled down on powdery white makeup, whimsical Danny Elfman scores, and Johnny Depp in virtually all of his recent projects. For Alice Through the Looking Glass, Burton will step aside as director James Bobin (Flight of the Conchords), staying on a producer. The latest trailer debuted during the Grammys, and shows us some new footage of Alice’s journey back into Wonderland, as she battles villains both new and old.
2. The Flash | Zoom’s Coming
Season 2 of The Flash has had fans asking one question: Who is Zoom? Our red-suited speedster’s recent trip to Earth-2 didn’t give us a definitive answer, but it certainly afforded us plenty of hints. It won’t be long before we find out for sure, and if the latest trailer from the CW is any indicator, it’ll shake the foundation of Barry Allen’s world.
The Hunger Games may officially be over (for now), but that doesn’t mean the torch for YA movies featuring a plucky female lead isn’t still being carried. The Divergent series will soon come out with the third movie in the series with Allegiant, as our heroes find out they’re a part of a large-scale social experiment in a post-apocalyptic wasteland.
4. Game of Thrones Season 6: Hall of Faces
Season 6 of Game of Thrones is still a ways off, but it’s never too early to begin speculating about who might be the next to die. HBO’s latest teaser provides an answer to that question that’s far from satisfying: freaking everybody. We see a camera pan over the Hall of Faces from Season 5, giving us a walk down memory lane for some of the recently departed, while hinting at the fact that any and everyone can and will bite the dust in Season 6.
5. Star Wars: Episode VIII production announcement
Star Wars: Episode VIII has already been marred by a seven-month production delay. Now the long delay is over, announced to the public with a painfully brief 34-second teaser from Lucasfilm. We see little in the way of details, but we do get a solid look at a bearded Mark Hamill, mirroring the final scene from The Force Awakens. Even with Rogue One less than a year out, fans are still finding themselves more focused on the next installment in the trilogy.
