5 Must-See TV and Movie Trailers: ‘Samurai Jack’ and More

Trailers are as much a part of the movie-going experience nowadays as the films themselves. There’s something incomparably exciting about seeing what amounts to a two-minute sizzle reel of a release’s best scenes. It’s why trailer culture has proliferated into what it is today, and makes it so even the release date of a short teaser is a day to look forward to. In the spirit of these, our team gathers together the best the internet has to offer, delivering all the TV and movie trailers and teasers you can possibly handle in one place every week.

1. Table 19

Ensemble comedies have taken off in recent years, popularized by directors like Wes Anderson (who pretty much mastered the format himself). To make a believable and entertaining installment in the genre, you need a cast of characters that gel with a certain chemistry. Without that, the film is little more than 90 minutes of worthless filler. In the case of Table 19, we see a cast that looks so mismatched it might just be brilliant.

Anna Kendrick joins Lisa Kudrow, Craig Robinson, and Stephen Merchant among others. The first trailer lays out the story in its most basic form for us: Kendrick has been relegated to the “barely necessary” table of a wedding, joined by a collection of misfits that struggle to be noticed. It’s a film that’s certainly not short on talent, and with the brilliant Duplass brothers having penned the screenplay, we see massive potential for its January 2017 release date.

2. Samurai Jack, Season 5

To this day, Samurai Jack holds up as a gorgeously animated and compelling Adult Swim series. It was sadly ended before fans got a satisfying conclusion for our time-traveling lead back in 2004, while the creators have fought to bring it back ever since. All their efforts have now finally paid off, marked by a fifth season that brings back the whole team behind the original show. A seven-minute featurette released by the network also digs into the vision behind the upcoming episodes. Strap in Samurai Jack fans, you’re about to get everything you’ve ever wanted and more.

3. Imperium

It’s been interesting seeing Daniel Radcliffe grow as an actor in the years since he wrapped up his run as Harry Potter. In that time, he’s made himself into a successful stage actor, while dipping his toes into the horror genre in film. His most recent project, Swiss Army Man, even cemented him in a talented indie presence. His next film promises to be his most challenging though, playing an undercover FBI agent infiltrating a radical right-wing terrorist cell. That being so, it’s safe to say that Radcliffe has officially left his Harry Potter days behind him.

4. Ash vs. Evil Dead, Season 2

When it comes to campy horror and buckets of red corn syrup doubling as blood, nothing beats Sam Raimi’s Evil Dead horror saga. The films have come to define the B-movie culture surrounding the genre and are held up as classics. Starz green-lighting Ash vs. Evil Dead seemed only natural with all this being so, bringing back original Evil Dead star Bruce Campbell to reprise his iconic role. Our first look at the show’s second season is now available, and it looks every bit as insane as its predecessor. Sure it’s an acquired taste, but also there’s nothing quite like it anywhere in horror.

5. War Dogs

The debut trailer for War Dogs has been floating around for a while now, telling the true story of two 20-somethings who landed a massive defense contract from the U.S. government, and became infamous global gun-runners in the process. The second teaser gives us even more, delivering on the potential of its incredible cast. Miles Teller, Jonah Hill, and Bradley Cooper top the bill for the film that’s becoming more and more relevant to modern audiences with each passing day. We won’t have to wait much longer to see it either, thanks to an imminent August 19 release date.
