This week was a big one for movie and TV trailers. Between the latest footage from Deadpool, a new sneak peek at the Season 6 midseason premiere of The Walking Dead, and the first extended look at Disney’s The Jungle Book, there were plenty of clips for movie lovers and TV buffs to discuss and speculate over. Here are five just-released trailers from this week that you don’t want to miss out on.
Ryan Reynolds has shown no shame when it comes to promoting his upcoming superhero flick and that trend continued during this week’s premiere of ABC’s The Bachelor. In its latest genius marketing ploy, Deadpool aired a new promo during the widely watched reality show, while Reynolds tweeted along. The spot starts out with Deadpool sitting next to a bunch of roses and unabashedly catering to The Bachelor‘s female demographic: “You’re probably thinking my boyfriend said this is a superhero movie,” he says, “but this is actually…a love story.” Cue the music.
Though the footage doesn’t really show anything we haven’t seen before, it does — as Reynolds promised — play up the romantic angle, focusing more attention on Wade’s relationship with his girlfriend Vanessa (Morena Baccarin) and her eventual kidnapping as the inspiration for him to become Deadpool. Deadpool hits theaters on February 12, 2016.
2. The Walking Dead
The trailer for the midseason premiere of The Walking Dead is here, giving fans a hint as what’s in store in the latter half of Season 6. It starts where the finale left off, with Rick, Carl, Michonne, Jessie, and her kids preparing to brave the undead masses. “I thought living behind these walls was possible. I was wrong,” Rick says in the background. The trailer also teased the still-unseen extortionist, Negan (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), whose band of “Saviors” has been menacing in recent episodes. The series returns on February 14, 2016.
3. The Jungle Book
Disney debuted an extended trailer from Jon Favreau’s upcoming live-action/CG remake this week. The clip follows Neel Sethi’s Mowgli, as he embarks on a journey through a dense forest. It also gives audiences a glimpse at some of Mowgli’s loyal companions, like panther-turned-stern mentor Bagheera (Ben Kingsley) and Baloo the bear (Bill Murray), as well as the jungle’s other inhabitants — all of whom are just trying to avoid threats from Shere Khan the tiger (Idris Elba). The movie hits theaters on April 15, 2016.
4. The Get Down
Netflix has just revealed its first real look at their new musical drama The Get Down, directed by Moulin Rouge’s Baz Luhrmann. The series follows several teens as they navigate the streets, clubs, and music scene in the South Bronx in the 1970s. From the look of the trailer, fans can expect everything they’d expect from a Luhrmann-helmed project, from a highly colorful production to elaborate musical numbers. No exact premiere date has been confirmed yet.
5. A Bigger Splash
The new trailer for Luca Guadagnino’s upcoming thriller follows Tilda Swinton as rocker Marianne Lane whose vacation on a remote Italian island is disrupted when her old friend, producer and former flame Harry Hawkes (Ralph Fiennes) shows up with his daughter Penelope (Dakota Johnson). As the clip indicates, things quickly turn to total chaos. The movie is scheduled to premiere on May 13, 2016.
