5 of the Best Ways You Can Celebrate Batman Day
The world is full of goofy holidays celebrating all sorts of things. Not to be left out of the fun, comic book fans will get to celebrate one of the most popular and iconic superheroes in history this weekend. Saturday, September 26 is officially “Batman Day,” as declared by DC Entertainment. The celebration is building off the 75th anniversary of the comic in 2014, providing fans with all sorts of deals on everything from comics to themed cupcakes.
There are plenty of ways you too can join in on Batman Day, and we’re here to lay it all out. The Dark Knight is certainly a hero worth celebrating, and there are tons of ways to recognize his legendary status within not just the DC world, but the greater superhero universe. Over the years we’ve seen him everywhere, from one of his many films, to his any number of animated TV shows. Now, we even have a series on FOX that covers the origins of Commissioner Gordon along with Gotham’s Rogues Gallery. However you choose to take part, we have plenty of suggestions worthy of the biggest fans.
1. Marathoning through the Dark Knight trilogy
This one falls firmly in the “duh” category, but it’s still worth mentioning as the easiest way to celebrate. Not everyone has the time or skill to put together a killer cosplay. That being so, it doesn’t take much to find Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises streaming somewhere. Despite the treasure trove of other Batman movies out there, it’s safe to say that Christopher Nolan’s run is the quintessential film version worthy of the holiday we’re celebrating.
2. Going all in on comic books
In celebration of Batman Day, DC is offering fans a chance to stock up on comic books in a big way. For this entire week, 1000 titles are available for digital download at just $0.99 each. Additionally, the day itself marks a 24-hour deal that has various graphic novels going for just $3.99 a pop. If you visit your local comic book shop, you’ll see a similar run of deals on all Batman publications, making it the perfect day to stock on up on the essentials.
3. Do some early Halloween shopping
Let’s face it: Not everyone has $500 to $1000 to drop on an authentic true-to-life Batman suit. The beauty of Halloween though is that not every costume needs to sit in that price range. Costume shops and retailers are stocked now more than ever in the realm of superhero getups, and you can bet Batsuits will be be in stock. You can kill two birds with one stone, grabbing a discount Batman costume to wear this weekend, and then a month later for your official Halloween celebration.
4. Pick a TV show, any TV show
Depending on your preference, there are a variety of Batman-centric TV shows out there that you can marathon through once you’ve polished off The Dark Knight. For diehard fans, we highly recommend watching Bruce Timm’s Batman: The Animated Series (available in full with an Amazon Prime membership), or Batman Beyond (currently on Netflix). For an alternative choice, Season 1 of Gotham is also on Hulu right now, so there’s no shortage of television out there to sate your craving for all things Batman.
5. Free cupcakes
Sprinkles Cupcakes is teaming up with DC to participate in Batman Day, offering free themed cupcakes to the first 100 customers who come dressed up in costume. For any of you in a Sprinkles-less region, worry not: There are still ways to incorporate the Caped Crusader into your desserts. Head on over here for recipes walking you through ways to make your own Batman cupcakes. They may not be free, but there’s a certain feeling of accomplishment that comes along with creating your own superhero baked goods.
