6 TV Show Finales to Watch in July

July is a big month for TV show finales. From favorite veteran series like The Mindy Project and Outlander to freshman series like Houdini and Doyle, several shows are set to wrap up their latest (or in some cases, final) season over the course of the coming weeks. Here are six TV show finales you’ll want to tune in to watch this month.

1. Houdini and Doyle, July 4

Fox’s TV drama is based on the story of the friendship of Harry Houdini and Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, played by Michael Weston and Stephen Mangan, respectively. The show follows the iconic magician and writer as they team up to help New Scotland Yard investigate crimes with a supernatural slant.

Rebeca Liddiard, Adam Nagaitis, and Tim McInnerny co-star in the show. The 10-episode freshman season of the series, which previously aired on ITV in the UK and Global in Canada, will come to an end this month.

2. The Mindy Project, July 5

Mindy Kaling’s comedy will wrap up its fourth season (and first season on new home, Hulu) this month. The latest season of the series follows Kaling’s Mindy Lahiri as she gives birth to her son and adjusts to her new role as a mother.

Following the success of its debut season on Hulu, the series has been renewed by the streaming service for Season 5. But fans should expect some changes: The season will be shortened to 16 episodes and Chris Messina will not return as a series regular, instead only appearing as a recurring guest star.

3. Royal Pains, July 6

In March, USA Network announced that the show’s eighth season will be its last. “It’s with great sadness, but even greater thankfulness, that we prepare for our final summer sunsets, as Royal Pains comes to an end,” series creator Andrew Lenchewski and fellow executive producer Michael Rauch said in a statement at the time.

The drama’s eight-episode farewell season, which captures Hank (Mark Feuerstein) wondering if his professional fulfillment equals his personal fulfillment, concludes this month.

4. Outlander, July 9

The acclaimed Starz drama series, based on the historical time travel Outlander series of novels by Diana Gabaldon, wraps up its 13-episode sophomore season this month. Adapted from Gabaldon’s Dragonfly in the Amber, this season follows time-traveling 20th-century nurse Claire Randall (Caitriona Balfe) and her 18th-century Scottish Highland warrior husband Jamie Fraser (Sam Heughan ) as they try to prevent the Jacobite rising that Claire knows will end disastrously for the Scots.

Starz has already renewed the series for a third and fourth season, which will adapt the third and fourth Outlander novels, Voyager and Drums of Autumn.

5. Containment, July 19

Based on the Belgian TV series Cordon, the CW show follows an epidemic that breaks out in Atlanta, leaving a section of the city cordoned off under quarantine and those stuck on the inside fighting for their lives. David Gyasi, Christina Moses, Chris Wood, and Kristen Gutoskie co-star.

The drama, which has earned mixed reviews, will wrap up this month, following declining ratings. The CW has opted not to renew Containment for another season, instead keeping it as a limited series.

6. Thirteen, July 21

Thirteen | BBC America

The British drama chronicles the story of Ivy Moxam (Jodie Comer), a 26-year-old woman who escapes from the cellar where she has been imprisoned for 13 years.

Aneurin Barnard, Richard Rankin, Valene Kane, and Natasha Little co-star in the series, which debuted in the UK on BBC Three earlier this year and is currently airing on BBC America in the US. The five-episode freshman season will conclude this month. Creator Marnie Dickens has already confirmed that there won’t be a second season.
